Simeone: "I ask the kings for a good match in Mallorca"
The Argentine was blunt: "Arda Turan will not go, for sure"
Diego Pablo Simeone’s first press conference in 2013 saw the coach of Atletico Madrid speak of Joel and Silvio saying "they are talking to the club and are allowed to define their future." Both players were not in the training the team held on Wednesday 2nd of January at Majadahonda Sports City, the Brazilian Filipe Luis also missed the session as he continued in the gym with his recovery from injury.
The Argentine coach-confident in this brand new 2013 - in that Atletico "will continue to improve as a competitive team. We want to keep adding more possibilities in the future who will be improvements both individually and collectively," he said.
"I ask the kings for a good match in Mallorca. That's what I’d love," said Simeone upon being asked about a gift for the January 6th.
The Atletico coach repeated the line of work he wants to continue with his team: "We're talking about six months ahead and the reality is today. We can not get away from the line in which we have been all year. We will remain competitive and then, as we approach the end, we'll see what place we occupy".
Simeone explained how he saw the group after the Christmas break, "they look very well. We hope to continue in the very best way. Except for the injuries, we're fine. Luis [Filipe] is recovering positively and we’ll if he can get into the squad for Sunday. The losses due to suspension of Arda, Falco and Miranda will give other players the chance to take advantage of the minutes, that will be best for the team."
Finally, Simeone was so sharp to tackle all the rumors of a possible departure of Turkish player Arda Turan in the January window: "Arda is not going anywhere, that’s for sure. The important thing is what the player shows on the field. There is not a fan of Atletico Madrid who would not say that Arda is one of the best players we have and he gives everything in every game. He has a contract with the club and is an important player and it shows." he concluded.
