Arsenal banish the Blues
A three-goal blitz either side of half-time saw Arsenal banish their demons against Chelsea and beat the Blues at the Emirates for the first time since 2007. Song, Fabregas and Walcott scored within ten minutes and, although Ivanovic got one back, the Gunners held on to move second. Read

Player Ratings: Arsenal 3-1 Chelsea

By Alex Dimond at the Emirates Stadium

Arsenal

Lukasz Fabianski - 6.5
A surprisingly quiet evening for the Pole, who was solid in the air and distributed the ball well when needed. Ivanovic's goal ended his chances of a clean sheet, but the young shot-stopper will not worry too much about that.

Bacary Sagna - 6.5
Provided width on the right whenever Walcott looked to move infield. Was occasionally troubled by Malouda's breaking runs, but generally recovered well and dug in to help ensure the positive result.

Laurent Koscielny - 7.0
Did well against the often difficult threat of Drogba, and won more than his share of headers from set-pieces, up until Ivanovic's disappointing finish. Frenchman has every right to be satisfied with his display, although there is still some room for improvement.

Johan Djourou -7.5
A surprise selection ahead of Squillaci, the Swiss international showed his worth with a number of uncompromising challenges against the ever-present Drogba. Wenger's trust proved not to be misplaced; the youngster finally looks to be delivering on his long-known potential.

Gael Clichy - 6.0
The Frenchman continues to look like a liability-in-waiting, but defended diligently against Kalou as and when required. Attacking offerings could have been more considered.

Theo Walcott - Top of the Match - 8.0
A curious evening for the Englishman, who was let down by his first touch on numerous occasions in the final third, yet also was the inspiration behind a number of his side's best chances. He then exploded into life after half-time, laying on for Fabregas to score the second and then immediately creating and finishing a third.

Alexandre Song Bilong - 7.0
Took opening goal with clinical touch befitting a striker, reacting quickest as the ball ran loose in the box. It was a deserved strike after initiating the build-up, and Song was otherwise important as he took turns to sit deepest in midfield.

Jack Wilshere - 6.5
Nervous in the opening exchanges — regularly losing the ball — the young Englishman grew into the game as it went on and proved increasingly comfortable on the ball. As Chelsea went all-out for the win, his technique and ability to pick a pass became increasingly evident.

Samir Nasri - 7.0
Again his side's biggest attacking thrust, despite the return of Fabregas. Frenchman's touch and vision caused Chelsea numerous problems as they struggled to contain him. Was gifted a chance by Kakuta that could have finished the game, but fluffed his lines.

Cesc Fàbregas - 7.5
Not as influential as in many games, the Spaniard nevertheless made his presence felt with the final touch in the build-up to Song's goal and then the finishing touch to his side's second shortly after half-time. His touch and composure on the ball aided his side greatly.

Robin Van Persie - 7.0
Showed why he was selected to lead the line with a series of intelligent runs in behind the defence. Showed continued signs of rust with some of his finishing, however, but made up for that with intelligent play that led to both the Gunners' goals shortly after the interval.

• Substitutions
Tomas Rosicky - N/A
Late substitute for Fabregas, allowing the captain to walk some time off the clock and take a deserved round of applause.

Abou Diaby - 6.0
Replaced the impressive Walcott as Wenger looked to preserve the three points. Missed another great chance to make it four, but helped shore things up defensively.

------------------------------------------

草包范佩西的打分略高,6.5就可以了;

纳斯里可以得7.5分的

开门红的宋可以得8.5分的

Player Ratings: Arsenal 3-1 Chelsea

By Alex Dimond at the Emirates Stadium

Chelsea
Petr Cech - 6.5
Made one spectacular save from Nasri, after a solid one to deny the Frenchman earlier on, just before half-time, but could do little as Song slide the ball past him. Could perhaps have done better in the build-up to the second, but was let done by his defence both then and for Walcott's clincher. Made a couple of smart saves to keep his side in with a shout after that, but his team-mates could not take advantage.

Paulo Ferreira - Flop of the Match - 5.0
Caught on the wrong side of Fabregas in the immediate build-up to Song's goal, a crucial error that would likely have gifted Arsenal a penalty if not for the fine finish. Well organised and mostly efficient, the Portuguese full-back nevertheless remains an obvious weak link.

Branislav Ivanovic - 7.0
Will feel he could have positioned himself better for the opening goal. Subtle header gave side a much-needed route back into the match and as the game entered the later stages was a formidable presence as he was given licence to run. Nevertheless, will be disappointed how easily space was found between he and Terry but was still one player to emerge with some credit.

John Terry - 6.0
Invoked the ire of the Emirates crowd with a few hefty challenges that certainly bordered on clumsy. But was his usual imperious self from defensive situations, until Arsenal suddenly found space for Walcott shortly after half-time.

Ashley Cole - 6.0
Always greeted with boos from the crowd, Cole enjoyed a competitive individual dual with Walcott — but, in what is a rare occurance, he undoubtedly lost it. A performance symptomatic of his side's current malaise.

Michael Essien - 5.5
Not quite the energy or fire we have come to expect from Essien, who hassled and harried throughout but seemed to lack a bit of sharpness. In attack Arsenal seemed to negate his presence with some ease.

Jon Obi Mikel - 5.0
Guilty of some poor long-range passing, the Nigerian was more circumspect with his short exchanges. Made few interventions but was often bypassed by Arsenal's fluid midfield system.

Frank Lampard - 6.0
Experience and skills had clear impact from the off, but the Englishman perhaps still lacks the match fitness to be the bustling box-to-box presence we know him to be and was rendered impotent as Arsenal flooded the central areas.

Salomon Kalou - 6.0
Did not make the most of another big start in a big game. Guilty of one horrible challenge on Clichy, the Ivory Coast international rarely turned dangerous positions into dangerous chances. Was more threatening later in the game, but by then the result was getting away from the visitors.

Florent Malouda - 5.5
The Frenchman made a number of significant runs that threatened to open up Arsenal, but in the end he was often shut-down before he could get a real sight of goal.

Didier Drogba - 6.0
The Ivorian has scored 13 in his last 11 against the Gunners, but he rarely looked like adding to that in this game. Provided assist for Ivanovic's headed effort in what was another distinctly underwhelming performance from the usually prolific forward.

• Substitutions
José Bosingwa - 6.0
Final substitution for his side, adding more attacking potency in place of Ferreira. Impact was evident, but not as decisively as needed.

Ramires - 5.0
A half-time replacement for Mikel, was aggressive in the tackle almost immediately but saw the Gunners score twice in his first 10 minutes on the pitch and never really recovered.

Gäel Kakuta - 5.0
Replaced the subdued Malouda just before the hour mark. Most notable contribution was a fluffed chest-back that nearly let in Nasri for another goal. In attack showed flashes of skill, but was not deceiving Arsenal's defenders with his attempts at trickery.

Beating Chelsea Strengthens Arsenal's Belief That We Can Win Title - Arsene Wenger
击败蓝军则增强阿森纳的信心,即温格认为枪手能够在本赛季英超激烈竞争中夺冠
Frenchman doesn't expect Blues to sack Ancelotti
法国人希望蓝军不要解雇安切洛蒂

Arsene Wenger has insisted that watching his Arsenal side beat Chelsea 3-1 at the Emirates has strengthened his belief that the Gunners can end their trophy drought and claim the Premier League title.

The north Londoners ended a barren run against the Blues with a vital victory that takes them into second place in the table and the Frenchman praised a mature performance.

"We have matured, I have said that many times, we have been frustrated a few times this season away from home in big games where we’ve felt we were more in the game than we got out of it," he told Sky Sports after the game.

"We were disciplined, mature, we played for each other I think the first goal, as I said before the game, played a vital part in it."

Goals from Alex Song, Theo Walcott and Cesc Fabregas did the damage for Arsenal and whilst Branislav Ivanovic grabbed a goal back for Chelsea they rarely troubled Lukasz Fabianski in goal.

Wenger praised his side’s defensive display and insisted victory had reinforced his team’s belief they could claim the Premier League title.

"We were quite solid, they scored on a set piece but overall in the open game we were very solid," he added.

"[This win has] strengthened our belief that we can challenge for the championship and it strengthens out belief that we are on the right way but there is still some room for improvement."

With regards to Chelsea's performance and their title credentials after the defeat, Wenger remains adamant they are still in the race for the championship and admitted he doesn't expect Carlo Ancelotti to be sacked, despite the Blues' poor run of form.

"I still count Chelsea as one of the big contenders for the championship, so because of the defeat tonight I do not think they are out of the running, not at all," Wenger told reporters.

"I rate Ancelotti very highly and I cannot believe that [that he will be sacked].

"We are not any more [men against boys], that is for sure, it is always very difficult to say because every game is different. I feel over the last two years we have matured. But this title race is very difficult to predict, and we need to show that we have got that out of our system and can be consistent.

"We are not very far, we are in December and we are in touch with Man U, we need to be at our best and continue to improve. I hope that the victory tonight will convince the players we are on the right path."

With regards to Walcott's performance, Wenger admitted that he feels the England winger has improved and that it was one of the 21-year-old's best performance for the club to date.

"Yes [it was one of Walcott's best games for the club]," he continued.

"I feel that he has improved and that tonight he has given an assist, has scored and was always a threat. He gave us a balance tonight because we like to go to feet, players like to go to the ball but he also likes to go behind."

Fabregas: Belief was key to victory

December 27, 2010

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas claimed belief was the key reason behind his side's comprehensive 3-1 defeat of Premier League title rivals Chelsea.

GettyImages
Arsenal celebrate doubling their lead.

Fabregas scored one and made another as the Gunners put the out-of-form champions to the sword at the Emirates, just two weeks after they had disappointed against Manchester United.
''Belief was the difference,'' Fabregas told Sky Sports 1. ''The difference between a good team and a great team is very little. We did what a great team does. We were fantastic. The league is so tight. Anyone can win it. We will try to do our best.''

Another goalscorer, Theo Walcott, said he had not thought of Chelsea's recent dominance of his side, adding: ''We didn't think about the past. We can't change that. We concentrated on pressing. Everyone was pressing. We didn't give Chelsea any space at all.
''We got the win but another game is just around the corner. Everything went well. We made Chelsea look average at times. We played some great football and wanted to do it for the fans because in recent years against Chelsea we've been disappointing.''

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti urged his side to ''wake up'' after their winless run stretched to six games. The Blues are six points adrift of leaders Manchester United, just two months after leading the table by five points.
''The difference was the quality,'' Ancelotti said. ''Arsenal put more quality on the pitch than us. They were able to play with the football. They played better than us.
''We didn't play well. We're in a difficult moment. We need to try and win the game against Bolton. We have to continue to work. We worked well these last two weeks. We didn't have a good performance today but we'll try in the next game.
''The table is not good but this is the reality. We have to wake up. Now we are sleeping.''
When asked if he was worried about his future, he added: ''I am not. This is a question you have to ask the owner. I'm confident.''

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger praised the patience of his side.
He said: ''We have matured. We have been disciplined, matured and played for each other. The focus of the team was good, even when we had to be less adventurous at some stages.
''We were quite solid. They scored on a set-piece. Drogba takes them very well. In open play, we were solid. Let's hope that it strengthens our belief that we can challenge for the championship and it strengthens our belief we're on the right way.''
