Rafa Benitez is ready to put one over Sir Alex Ferguson by finally signing Gabriel Heinze.

Liverpool boss Benitez was left fuming when Manchester United manager Ferguson blocked a summer bid for the Argentina left-back and sold him to Real Madrid.

But Benitez never gave up and is now determined to land the 29-year-old defender at the second attempt.

Heinze looked certain to be on his way to Merseyside after making it clear he wanted out at Old Trafford.

But Fergie blocked the deal when an arbitration panel ruled that Liverpool's arch-rivals could do business with whoever they wanted.

Heinze, who joined Real for ?.9million, remains Benitez's No.1 transfer window target.

But the Kop boss will turn his attention to Chelsea's Wayne Bridge should a ?m bid fail.

Heinze has barely had a look-in at the Bernabeu and the Kop boss has continued to track him.

Benitez knows Bridge would also be available for the same sort of money. Bridge has two years left on his Chelsea deal but he is often frustrated at playing second fiddle to Ashley Cole.

The purse strings are tight at Liverpool but cash will be freed up with Peter Crouch seemingly on his way out of the club with Manchester City the favourites to land him.

A deal for Heinze or Bridge will almost certainly signal the end of John Arne Riise at Anfield.

Benitez has long-term doubts about the player's all-round ability and Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has been monitoring the situation.

Liverpool could bid for Gabriel Heinze when the transfer window re-opens.

The Reds missed out on the Argentinian defender when Manchester United refused to sell him to them in the Summer. Heinze instead joined Real Madrid. However, he is not getting many games in Spain and the Sunday People is reporting that Rafael Benitez is ready to make another attempt to sign him, especially if he can offload John Arne Riise to Aston Villa.

也难怪拉法老盯着海哥，红军现在就是没后卫嘛……被人诟病一万年了，中后卫一共就三个，卡拉格、阿格、海皮亚，每场上两个轮着用，阿格一伤，把霍布斯、奥雷里奥都逼上去了，卡拉格更是连联赛杯都打满90分钟……芬南最近MS也伤了，于是阿贝罗阿左右窜来窜去，因为只打左路的里瑟偶尔还要打个左前卫（8知道为虾米红军要卖里瑟，据说卖也就600W，换不来几个钱）……所以挖……后卫乱成这样还是的确需要买进的说……

皇马不会放海哥走的，看看马赛洛，德伦特，哪个不是冒冒失失。只要不受伤，海哥必然是左后卫的主力人选。
