MILAN - Next Tuesday's Tim Trophy triangular tournament between Inter, AC Milan and Juventus at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza will kick off with the Italian champions against the Bianconeri from Turin. Domenico Celi (Campobasso), Antonio Damato (Barletta) and Andrea Gervasoni (Mantua) are the officials appointed to referee the three 45-minute matches.

The losers face AC Milan in the second match, with the game one winners to take on the Rossoneri in the third and final 45-minute clash. Domenico Celi (Campobasso), Antonio Damato (Barletta) and Andrea Gervasoni (Mantua) are the officials appointed to referee the three 45-minute matches.

MILAN - Inter beat Juventus 5-4 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in the first of this evening's three 45-minute Tim Trophy matches.

The Nerazzurri face AC Milan in the third and final game, with losers Juventus to take on the Rossoneri in tonight's second match.

Iaquinta wasted an early chance for the Bianconeri, dragging wide Nedved's cross in the 4th minute.

Cristiano Zanetti had a low 25-yard shot from Samuel's clearance saved by Toldo as Juve continued to pressurise the Nerazzurri in the opening period.

Inter's first chance fell to Santiago Solari's whose angled right-foot shot was saved by Buffon at the near post.

Juve went close again in the 17th, Toldo punching clear Del Piero's free kick, awarded for a Cesar foul on Salihamidzic.

Solari's rifled shot fizzed wide off Cristiano Zanetti as Inter had their second chance on 20 minutes. Samuel's headed goal from the resultant corner was disallowed with Cordoba adjudged to be in an offside position.

Ranieri's side were denied again when Cordoba blocked Almiron's goal-bound drive in the 23rd. And again in the 36th minute when Toldo blocked Iaquinta's poked effort from a corner.

Inter hit straight back and Juve had Criscito to thank for a clearance from Cruz's pass for Adriano who was through on goal. Jimenez's dangerous inswinger from the corner was punched clear by Buffon.

The Nerazzurri scored all five of their penalties to win the shoot-out after Juve defender Criscito had his spot-kick saved by Toldo.

MILAN - Alvaro Recoba rifled in a peach of a goal to give Inter a 1-0 victory over AC Milan and hand the Nerazzurri their fifth Tim Trophy triumph in seven editions of the pre-season triangular.

Tonight's third and decisive Tim Trophy match (the Rossoneri beat Juventus 1-0 after Inter's penalties win over the Bianconeri) was preceded by a minute's applause in memory of Guido Susini.

A lively opening period saw goalkeepers Paolo Orlandoni and Zeljko Kalac make saves from Gourcuff and Crespo. Orlandoni was called into action again early on, forced into a spectacular diving parry from Inzaghi's flicked header.

Santiago Solari, who had Inter's clear-cut chances in the opening game against Juve, drew applause from the San Siro crowd on 13 minutes with a curling shot from Maicon's return pass.

Roberto Mancini made two switches before the 20-minute mark, replacing Julio Cruz with promising youngster Mario Balotelli, who turned 17 last Sunday, and Solari with Alvaro Recoba.

Orlandoni kept the game goalless with his third block of the game on 22 minutes - a fingertip save from Gourcuff - before making way for Francesco Toldo.

Milan's Cafu brought down a Pirlo pass into the area and smashed into the far corner but the Brazilian's effort was ruled out for offside.

Alvaro Recoba broke the deadlock with a sublime effort in the 28th minute. The Uruguayan danced down the middle, laid the ball off to Zanetti and from the Argentine's return pass picked his spot and lashed past Kalac from 25 yards.

Toldo kept Inter's lead intact with a punched save from free kick specialist Pirlo. Inter hit straight back and could have doubled their lead but Kalac got down to block a Balotelli effort.

Mancini brought on youngsters Filkor and Bolzoni in the final stages. The latter had a low shot saved by Kalac as Inter looked to increase their advantage before the final whistle.

Zanetti: "The Inter I know"

MILAN - Forty-five minutes against Juventus, and thirty-two against AC Milan. Javier Zanetti put some valuable pre-season minutes in his legs in Tuesday's Tim Trophy tournament ahead of the Nerazzurri's 2007/08 season, which kicks off this coming Sunday with the Italian Super Cup against Roma.

Speaking after Inter's triangular triumph Zanetti, who along with several other South Americans made his first pre-season appearance since the Copa America, said: "The legs are working and I have found the Inter I know. We only have a week's work in our legs and these were our first matches, but everything went well. Our condition is improving and the work we are doing is already harvesting its fruits."

The Inter captain added: "I'm pleased with mine and the team's performance. I have found the Inter I know, a team that always wants to win and that has the quality to face a difficult season."
