Champions Corinthians gave Emerson Leao, their fourth coach this year, a winning start with a 2-1 victory over Fluminense on Wednesday that moved them off the bottom of the Brazilian championship table. Former Brazil goalkeeper and coach Leao took charge of his first game less than 36 hours after being appointed by the crisis-hit club, who have gone from champions to relegation contenders in just over six months.
Two goals in the opening 10 minutes put Corinthians on the way to only their fifth win in 17 games. Argentina forward Carlos Tevez tapped in the opener in the second minute before Carlos Alberto headed home the second.
Fluminense forward Tuta pulled one back when he won and converted a penalty.
Corinthians, who have 16 points, moved above Santa Cruz on games won after the Recife-based team lost 4-2 at home to Gremio.
Geninho, who resigned from Corinthians after Saturday's 3-1 home defeat to Figueirense, took charge of his first game at Goias since being appointed on Monday and saw his team draw 2-2 at home to Botafogo.
Geninho had been in charge of Goias before leaving in May to join Corinthians.
Ze Roberto scored both Botafogo goals, the second with a speculative free kick. Romerito, from a penalty, and Souza were on target for Goias, who have now gone eight games without a win.
