 MILAN - Inter fitness coach Claudio Gaudino is among the winners of the eighth edition of the Radicchio d'Oro awards, an annual event organised by the association of radicchio restaurants in the province of Treviso in Italy's Veneto region. Gaudino will be given a prize along with other protagonists of the Italian national football team that triumphed at this summer's World Cup in Germany.

MILAN - The second edition of the Oratorio Cup was presented Thursday evening in the Executive Suite at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. The captains, coaches and managers of all the youth teams involved attended the presentation, along with the Moratti family, represented by Milly Moratti, FC Internazionale managing director and chief operating officer Ernesto Paolillo, and first-team members Marco Andreolli and Julio Cesar. Before the presentation began, Dr Paolillo remembered Giacinto Facchetti, underlining the importance of the educational role of sport: "He started in the parish youth clubs, and with far-sightedness opened this road that we must continue on with determination."

MORATTI: "FACCHETTI WOULD BE PROUD"

 MILAN - Speaking to journalists at today's presentation of a new award in memory of Giacinto Facchetti, entitled Il bello del calcio, Massimo Moratti remembered the late Inter president and complimented the Nerazzurri on their current run of form.

"It is a balanced and solid team which inspires confidence. In some ways, this year's team mirrors the character of Facchetti. "I'm sorry he's not here with us to share the team's happiness - the fruit of his equilibrium, strength and loyalty. I think he would have been proud," said Moratti, who replied with words suited to the occasion when quizzed on Inter's transfer targets, the renewal of Roberto Mancini's contract, and the likelihood of new arrivals during the January window.

"Mancini's contract? I don't understand why it's mentioned so much. And I think this topic is destined to remain a mystery today as well," said the Inter president who, when asked if there will be any new arrivals for Christmas, answered: "No, I don't think so. Father Christmas doesn't give this kind of present."

On Inter's season, and in response to those who speak of a championship affected by points penalties and relegations, Moratti added: "Our first place is, more than ever, deserved and legitimate, and should be thoroughly enjoyed while it lasts. If others are forced to start with points penalties it's not the fault of Inter, who should be proud of what they are doing."

The winner of the first Il bello del calcio award is Julio Gonzalez, who until 22 December 2005 was a promising player on the books of Vicenza. That evening he was on his way to the airport to join his family in Paraguay when he lost his left arm and part of his right arm in a car crash. Facchetti's prompt message of sympathy read: "With your strength you will manage to win this match too."

On receiving the award, Gonzalez said: "I have understood that the beauty of the world is life. I have had a lot of people around me with more serious problems than mine, and they were smiling. I'm training and I hope I'll make it. I want to play again; what happened was the will of God. I believe it was a sign because through me, people can see that it is right to believe in dreams."

 MILAN - Giacinto Facchetti, a man of sport and communication, was remembered during a Christmas ceremony held by the Lombard Group of Sports Journalists (GLGS) on Monday. After the ceremony Facchetti's children Barbara and Gianfelice, in attendance along with Inter managing director and CEO Ernesto Paolillo, were presented with an honorary GLGS membership card bearing Giacinto's name.

 MILAN - Inter Campus Worldwide organisational responsible Massimo Seregni and coach Alberto Giacomini are back to base after a visit to the Inter Campus Bulgaria centres in Troyan on the banks of the Beli Osam river and Sapareva Bania on the northern slope of the Rila mountain. Children from the Bania centre and the Romiteli team of Romany children from Lom (on the Romanian border) took part in the training courses and friendly matches arranged.

The Inter Campus delegation, which included Bulgaria IC responsible Paolo Giulini and local project leader Tzetan Tzenov, also visited the ancient Rila Monastery on the homonymous mountain to the southeast of Sofia, which has been selected as one of the images for the 2007 Inter Campus calendar.

 MEZZOCORONA (TRENTO) - Marco Andreolli and Francesco Toldo represented the first team at Thursday's evening's Wivi l'Inter event for the Inter Clubs in Italy's Trentino Alto Adige region. At the Cittadella del Vino, the biggest wine cellar in Europe, the two Nerazzurri players answered questions, signed autographs and posed for photos for the 400 fans in attendance.

The Inter Club Coordination Centre was represented by Emauele Nardi and Fausto Sala, while master of ceremonies for the evening was Inter Channel's Roberto Scarpini. Also in attendance was great Inter fan and ex-cyclist Francesco Moser. Several Inter clubs from the region were presented with commemorative plates: Riva del Garda (founded in 1962), Trento (1963), Bondone (1966), Ala (1976) and Bolzano (1982).

Proceeds from a charity lottery went entirely to the Inter Campus Worldwide project, former player Diego Murari (who has a very rare illness), charity associations Associazione Azione per un Mondo Unito and Associazione Peter Pan, and Dario Girardi, a missionary who works in Mexico.

FIFA AWARDS FOR CRESPO, FACCHETTI

 ZURICH - Inter striker Hernan Crespo picked up the prestigious Silver Show accolade at last night's FIFA World Player awards for the three goals in four games which saw the Argentine become second top scorer at the 2006 World Cup.

During the course of the evening, FIFA president Blatter presented Giacinto Facchetti's wife Giovanna and son Gianfelice with a special Presidential Award to honour the memory of the late Inter president.

 MILAN - Three Inter Primavera players have completed loan moves to other clubs. Goalkeeper Luca Bonfiglio, born in 1989, has joined Nazionale Dilettanti category team Voghera. Defender Marco Modolo (1989) and midfielder/striker Roberto De Filippis (1988), will play the rest of the season with the Pro Sesto Primavera team coached by Gianluca Andrissi.

INTER CAMPUS LEBANON PROJECT FINALISED

 BEIRUT - A football school will be founded in the south of Lebanon this spring thanks to the help of Inter Campus Worldwide. Representatives of Inter Campus paid a trip to the Middle East nation this week to promote the project, with a visit to the military base of the contingent of Italian troops of the UN Interim Force (UNIFIL).

Accompanied by colonel Vittorio Isoldi, the contingent's vice commander, Massimo Moretti and Inter Campus technical responsible Aldo Montinaro met the Tibnin local authorities and presented a project to set up a football school at village's sports centre.

"The concept of the Inter Campus project is to nurture young players in their own environment, close to their families and friends," said Moretti, who met approximately 200 young aspiring footballers from Tibnin and the neighbouring areas.

After distributing footballs and Inter kits, Montinari held a training session on the local pitch. The Inter Campus mission in Lebanon continues with visits to Beirut and Junieh, a small town 21km north of the capital.

 DUSSELDORF - UEFA's director of communications William Gaillard remembered the late Giacinto Facchetti as "an immense player, a great manager, an extraordinary gentleman" whilst introducing UEFA president Lennart Johansson at the XXXI Ordinary Congress in Dusseldorf on Thursday.  GENOA - Julio Cesar and Maxwell were the special guests at the first Wivi l'Inter event of 2007, which took place this evening at the Hotel Sheraton near Genoa's Christopher Columbus airport.

The Brazilian pair were on stage with Inter Channel's Roberto Scarpini to answer questions, sign autographs and pose for photos for members of Inter Clubs from Italy's Liguria region.

Inter Clubs Genoa (25th anniversary), IC Rapallo (40th) and IC Finale Ligure (45th) were presented with commemorative plates, while proceeds from a lottery went entirely to a charity association promoted by Italian comedian Enrico Bertolino, which assists disadvantaged children in Brazil.

IC VIMODRONE HELPS CORDOBA CHARITY

 VIMODRONE - Inter Club Vimodrone has teamed up with Ivan Ramiro Cordoba's Colombia Te Quiere Ver association and Milan's San Raffaele hospital to help disadvantaged people in the South American nation through a new project called The Boat of Hope. The project, to be unveiled next month, is a floating boat hospital, to provide medical assistance to a part of the Colombian population that still lives on the edge of modern society.

Accompanied by Fausto Sala, director of the Inter Club Coordination Centre, and Mario Locatelli, regional coordinator for Inter Clubs in the province of Milan, Ivan Ramiro and Maria Cordoba took part in Inter Club Vimodrone's annual dinner to promote the new project. Also in attendance was Inter defender Marco Andreolli, who said: "It is nice and educational to see how seriously and passionately Ivan and his family take their charity association, and this is why I am glad to support this project with you, who as Nerazzurri fans show every time that you don't just follow our team with affection and passion, but also share with us the deisre to help those most in need."

Cordoba and Andreolli autographed two Inter shirts for a charity auction which helped raise funds for the Boat of Hope project.

IC MURATIDENTRO RAISE FUNDS FOR AFRICA

 MILAN - Inter Club Muratidentro has raised funds to build a well in Africa through the Manuel Rumi charity association (www.manuelrumi.org). At Inter's headquarters on Friday 16 February, general director and CEO Ernesto Paolillo was presented with a cheque for the construction of the well, to be named after the unforgotten and unforgettable Giacinto Facchetti. In return Manuel Rumi, whose organisation has built 102 wells in Africa over 19 years, presented Paolillo with a book about the history of his charity association.

99 YEARS OF INTER: THE HISTORY CONTINUES

 MILAN - The founding of Football Club Internazionale Milano ninety-nine years ago was reported two days later in local paper La Lombardia. The article of several lines summed up the 'communiqué' signed by the founding members, which was written on the back of a headed letter bearing the name of Umberto Muggiani, father of painter Giorgio, who designed the club's original coat of arms.

Inter's long history began during a secret meeting at the Orologio restaurant in Milan. According to historical reconstructions, the founding members met from eight o'clock until eleven thirty, deciding on an annual partnership share of 10 Lira. Soon after, the club's headquarter's was moved from the Commercio restaurant to the Caffé Vergani. In the early days, the players bought their own football boots and kits, played on a pitch near Milan's Naviglio Grande, and could often be spotted fishing balls out of the canal before moving to the Arena Civica, where home matches were played until the Stadio San Siro was built.

The history of Inter's birth and Italian football in general was passed down from book to book, from memory to memory, just as legends are born. Like Inter's first ace Hernst Xavier Marktl, a Swiss national born in 1887. At the age of 22 Marktl, with his hawk-like moustache, had the appearance of a distinguished gentleman in his jacket and tie. He played two league matches for the Nerazzurri, the first two competitive matches of our ninety-nine year-long history.

Campelli, Fronte, Zoller; Yenni, Fossati, Stebler; Capra, Peyer, Peterly, Aebi and Schuler formed the attack-minded side that won the club's first Scudetto in 1909/10. They scored 55 goals that season, won both Milan derbies, and captured the attention of Inter's first fans thanks to the passion of Fossati, the saves made by Campelli, the elegance of Aebi, and the goals of Peterly. They wrote: "Great applause salutes the victory of Internazionale F.C.".
