 NEW YORK - Former Inter player Benoit Cauet was guest of honour at the Inter Club 'Moratti USA' New York Annual Dinner Dance, held on Saturday 3 February. The French midfielder, one of over four hundred guests, was welcomed at the sumptuous Leonard's of Great Neck venue by club president Stefano Turricano and the executive committee composed of first vice president Domenico Catalano, second vice president Joe Ferrantelli, club secretary Vincenzo Mannino, treasurer Angelo Messina, webmaster Jack Borruso, and committee members Joe Borruso, Ignazio Basone, Vito Catalano, Tony Chiarenza, Joe Costa, Carmelo Di Lorenzo, Domenico Giampapa, Joe Maccariello, Emilio Maimone, Salvatore Messina, Vincenzo Scibelli and Filippo Scimeca.

Delegations from Inter Clubs Montreal and Toronto, led by presidents Gianfranco Pennino and Rocco Cerrone, were also in attendance.

Founded in New York in 1995 by a group of fans whose families have always supported Inter, IC Moratti USA counts over ninety members. Online since 1998, the American IC has forged solid links with a number of Italian Inter Clubs over the years, including ICs Lumezzane, Angelo Moratti, Nicola Ventola, Ressaex and Roma 11 Stelle.

In keeping with the Moratti family's philosophy, Inter Club Moratti USA is actively involved in charity work. Following the tsunami in December 2005, a goods drive was organised in New York to raise money for the survivors. After Hurricane Katrina, a 16-metre tractor trailor containing water, clothes and food was shipped to the area thanks to the help of former vice president Tony Di Piazza, while a charity dinner was organised to raise funds to rebuild the seriously-damaged Italian-American Museum in New Orleans.

 VIAREGGIO - Inter Primavera will face Genoa in the 2007 Carnival Cup round of 16. The match will take place at the Stadio Comunale in Quarrata, Pistoia province on Wednesday 14 February. Genoa qualify for the knockout phase after winning all three of their group matches against Real Arroyo, Reggina and New York Stars.

Inter coach Vincenzo Esposito will watch from the stands after being sent off in the final minutes of Monday's match against San Marino.  GALLIATE LOMBARDO (VARESE) - Adriano and Maicon were on stage with Inter Channel's Roberto Scarpini at the Filly's restaurant in Galliate Lombardo for the fourth Wivi l'Inter event of the season. During three hours of black-and-blue passion, the Brazilian pair signed autographs, posed for photos and answered questions from members of Inter Clubs located in the province of Varese. The entire proceeds of a charity lottery were donated to the Varese con te association that helps terminally ill patients.

 APPIANO GENTILE - Ex-boxer and great Inter fan Giovanni Parisi watched the Nerazzurri train this morning before greeting Roberto Mancini and the players. Parisi, accompanied by his eight-year-old son Carlos, won the WBO Lightweight Title in 1992. Four years earlier, the Calabria native won gold in the Featherweight category at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul.

 APPIANO GENTILE - A group of young coaches involved in the Inter Campus Worldwide project gathered in Milan on Wednesday 13 February for a meeting with technical responsible Aldo Montinaro at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium. After spending the morning planning out the schedule for the second part of the season, the Inter Campus coaches visited Inter's training ground in Appiano Gentile. Montinaro introduced them to first team coach Roberto Mancini and players Ivan Cordoba and Javier Zanetti, who are directly involved in the ongoing projects in Colombia and Argentina.

 QUARRATA (PISTOIA) - Inter Primavera exit the 59th Carnival Cup at the last sixteen stage after losing to Genoa on penalties.

The Ligurians took an early lead through Forestieri, who fired past Tornaghi from just inside the box. Gianluca Siligardi equalised from the penalty spot on 52 minutes after a foul on Sebastian Ribas.

Genoa were reduced to ten men in the 63rd after the dismissal of D'Alessandro, but Inter failed to capitalise despite an all-out assault in the final period.

Numerical parity was restored five minutes from time when Pedrelli received his marching orders.

Bonucci and Ribas failed to convert their spot kicks in the resulting shoot-out, while Costantini was the only Genoa player to miss his penalty.

IC VIMODRONE HELPS CORDOBA CHARITY

 VIMODRONE - Inter Club Vimodrone has teamed up with Ivan Ramiro Cordoba's Colombia Te Quiere Ver association and Milan's San Raffaele hospital to help disadvantaged people in the South American nation through a new project called The Boat of Hope. The project, to be unveiled next month, is a floating boat hospital, to provide medical assistance to a part of the Colombian population that still lives on the edge of modern society.

Accompanied by Fausto Sala, director of the Inter Club Coordination Centre, and Mario Locatelli, regional coordinator for Inter Clubs in the province of Milan, Ivan Ramiro and Maria Cordoba took part in Inter Club Vimodrone's annual dinner to promote the new project. Also in attendance was Inter defender Marco Andreolli, who said: "It is nice and educational to see how seriously and passionately Ivan and his family take their charity association, and this is why I am glad to support this project with you, who as Nerazzurri fans show every time that you don't just follow our team with affection and passion, but also share with us the deisre to help those most in need."

Cordoba and Andreolli autographed two Inter shirts for a charity auction which helped raise funds for the Boat of Hope project.

IC MURATIDENTRO RAISE FUNDS FOR AFRICA

 MILAN - Inter Club Muratidentro has raised funds to build a well in Africa through the Manuel Rumi charity association (www.manuelrumi.org). At Inter's headquarters on Friday 16 February, general director and CEO Ernesto Paolillo was presented with a cheque for the construction of the well, to be named after the unforgotten and unforgettable Giacinto Facchetti. In return Manuel Rumi, whose organisation has built 102 wells in Africa over 19 years, presented Paolillo with a book about the history of his charity association.

 MILAN - F.C.Internazionale, MasterCard and Banca Popolare di Milano (BPM) have teamed up to create a innovative product for Inter fans.

The CartaINRETE, a prepaid, reloadable credit card, was unveiled during a press conference at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza ahead of Wednesday's Champions League clash with Valencia.

The credit card is now available at all branches of BPM, Banca di Legnano, and through the internet sites www.cartainrete.inter.it and www.bpmprepagate.it. Linked to the MasterCard network, CartaINRETE can be used to make purchases in millions of shops in Italy and worldwide, and online.

"The creation of a product like CartaINRETE originates from the rapport between MasterCard and a sport which is pure passion in Italy," declared Beatrice Cornacchia, marketing director for MasterCard in Italy and Greece. "It was a natural choice to create a product with Banca Popolare di Milano, with whom we have had an important partnership for years, and with Inter, a team with a hundred-year history of triumphs."

LIVATINO AWARD FOR FACCHETTI

 MASCALI (CATANIA) - Giacinto Facchetti posthumously received an honour at this morning's XIII Rosario Livatino Memorial Awards, an annual event staged in memory of the young Sicilian antimafia magistrate killed by a car bomb on 21 September 1990.

Accompanied by Inter's vice general director Stefano Filucchi, who underlined the club's continued involvement in social work, Facchetti's son Gianfelice accepted the award from Catania mayor Silvio Carota and Livatino Memorial committee president Attilio Cavallaro.

Giacinto Facchetti had keenly followed the activities of the Rosario Livatino Memorial association, which last May gave awards to Javier Zanetti and Ivan Ramiro Cordoba for the work done through their PUPI and Colombia Te Quiere Ver charities.

The Inter Campus project won a Livatino award in 2005.

 FORLÌ - Javier Zanetti and Santiago Solari were on stage with Inter Channel's Roberto Scarpini at Saturday's Wivi l'Inter event for Inter Clubs in Italy's Emilia-Romagna region. In the conference room at Forlì's exhibition centre, the two Argentine Nerazzurri signed autographs, posed for photos and answered questions from the fans in attendance. Inter Clubs from Cattolica, Cesenatico, Forlì, Longiano, San Mauro Pascoli, Lugo di Romagna, Meldola, Ravenna, Riccione and Rimini - were presented with commemorative plates, while the entire proceeds of a charity lottery were donated to Zanetti's PUPI Foundation and Cordoba's Colombia Te Quiere Ver Association.

INTER LEGEND LORENZI DIES

 MILAN - Benito 'Veleno' Lorenzi passed away today, just before his beloved Inter took to the pitch for a victory over Livorno that he would have been pleased with. He was 81.

When 'Veleno' (literally 'poison') played, news would become literature. Like his second Serie A match for Inter, against Juventus in the summer of 1947.

Born on 20 December 1925 in the Tuscan town of Buggiano, near Pistoia, Lorenzi joined Inter from Empoli. Benito was one of three children of a tailor father and a grocery shop assistant mother, the first person to call him 'Veleno'.

A furiously talented penalty-area striker; thin, gritty, cunning, predatory, powerful and as quick as lightning, Benito Lorenzi was all this and more. Scoring was his job, and when he ended his Inter career he had scored 143 goals in 314 matches, during which time he won back-to-back Scudettos with Alfredo Foni's team, in 1952/53 and 1953/54. At international level Lorenzi scored 4 goals in 14 appearances for the Azzurri, and in typical style was also the protagonist of an argument with Brazilian referee Viana at the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland. For Nerazzurri fans, Lorenzi was their new hero after Giuseppe Meazza.

In that match against a fearsome Juventus side in 1947, a young Lorenzi found himself up against Bianconeri full-back Rava, who gave him regular 'beatings', always followed by a puncutal apology. At the start, Veleno didn't understand what was happening, but after the umpteenth foul it was Inter masseur Della Casa who came to his aid. "It was him who changed my career," Benito admitted. "He said 'React, Lorenzi'. And I reacted. I went in hard on Angeleri and Rava got furious. 'Hey boy! Who do you think you are. Here we eat our bread....' I replied: 'Sure, and you don't want me to start eating it!'" Lorenzi's was indeed very good bread for Inter.

And what about that slice of lemon? Lorenzi developed a sporting hatred for AC Milan (although off the pitch he was best friends with Nordahl). A protagonist of the 6-5 victory over the Rossoneri on 6 November 1949, Veleno played his 22nd Milan derby on 6 October 1957. He won Inter a dubious penalty before referee Lo Bello gave one to Milan. Tito Cucchiaroni stepped up to the spot and, incredibly, missed. After Inter's 1-0 victory there was a brawl between the players, for no apparent reason. A few years later Benito explained why. "I was sucking half a lemon, which we did back then to quench our thirst," he admitted, "and without letting the opponents see me - but I realised the Milan fans were shouting all sorts of things - I put that half lemon on the spot, below the ball so Cucchiaroni would miss."

Before hanging up his boots Veleno had spells at Alesandria and Brescia, but the city of Milan and Inter remained his home, his world, his strength. He coached the academy youngsters (Arturo Di Napoli was his last favourite pupil), went from home to home to collect money for the needy, and was a regular visitor to Inter's training ground on Saturdays. He would arrive at the wheel of an old Fiat 500, irritated by everything and everyone, both jokingly and intentionally, ready to write his book of truths. "And I'll warn you beforehand - when I write it I will tell everything and criticise everybody. Yes, even you."

 MILAN - Inter 4-2 AC Milan. Playing in honour of Benito 'Veleno' Lorenzi at the Centro Sportivo Giacinto Facchetti, Inter Primavera stormed into a four-goal lead before conceding two second-half replies.

With two games in hand and six points the difference between first and second, the Nerazzurri's flagship youth team are now within striking distance of their derby rivals after Sunday's tenth consecutive victory.

"I'm pleased with the result of this match, and even more pleased with the performance of the team, which had come from a hard and tiring game against Pescara in the Tim Cup only last Wednesday," Primavera coach Vincenzo Esposito told Inter Channel.

 MILAN - The funeral of former Inter great Benito 'Veleno' Lorenzi took place this afternoon at the Piccolo Cottolengo don Orione church in Milan. Massimo Moratti attended the service with his wife Milly, sons Angelomario and Giovanni, and brother Gianmarco. Also in attendance were a number of ex-Inter players, the Inter Primavera squad and coaching staff, and other members of the club's academy teams.

 MOROCCO - Inter Campus works closely with the Soleterre charity association in the suburbs of Casablanca to coach children who have escaped from terrorist training camps.

"Tarik's is the story of one of these children, it's a story of hope," said Soleterre president Damiano Rizzi. "A hope of peace and recognised rights that Soleterre has worked towards for over four years thanks to the help of friends and important partners like Inter Campus, who share these important principles with us."

Inter Campus official Massimo Seregni said: "It is with great enthusiasm that we accepted to work with Soleterre. We have brought sport to the young footballers of a poor population. It is a great challenge that we want to win through our passion and commitment to sharing the moral values that football always wants to take on to the pitch."

99 YEARS OF INTER: THE HISTORY CONTINUES

 MILAN - The founding of Football Club Internazionale Milano ninety-nine years ago was reported two days later in local paper La Lombardia. The article of several lines summed up the 'communiqué' signed by the founding members, which was written on the back of a headed letter bearing the name of Umberto Muggiani, father of painter Giorgio, who designed the club's original coat of arms.

Inter's long history began during a secret meeting at the Orologio restaurant in Milan. According to historical reconstructions, the founding members met from eight o'clock until eleven thirty, deciding on an annual partnership share of 10 Lira. Soon after, the club's headquarter's was moved from the Commercio restaurant to the Caffé Vergani. In the early days, the players bought their own football boots and kits, played on a pitch near Milan's Naviglio Grande, and could often be spotted fishing balls out of the canal before moving to the Arena Civica, where home matches were played until the Stadio San Siro was built.

The history of Inter's birth and Italian football in general was passed down from book to book, from memory to memory, just as legends are born. Like Inter's first ace Hernst Xavier Marktl, a Swiss national born in 1887. At the age of 22 Marktl, with his hawk-like moustache, had the appearance of a distinguished gentleman in his jacket and tie. He played two league matches for the Nerazzurri, the first two competitive matches of our ninety-nine year-long history.

Campelli, Fronte, Zoller; Yenni, Fossati, Stebler; Capra, Peyer, Peterly, Aebi and Schuler formed the attack-minded side that won the club's first Scudetto in 1909/10. They scored 55 goals that season, won both Milan derbies, and captured the attention of Inter's first fans thanks to the passion of Fossati, the saves made by Campelli, the elegance of Aebi, and the goals of Peterly. They wrote: "Great applause salutes the victory of Internazionale F.C.".

LEGA NOMINATES MORATTI FIGC ADVISOR

 MILAN - At a meeting of Italian Serie A & B clubs held today, Massimo Moratti was nominated for the role of advisor to the Italian FA (FIGC) with 27 votes out of 41.

The nomination will be ratified at a FIGC meeting next 2 April.

Besides the Inter president, Adriano Galliani (AC Milan, Serie A) and Mario Moroni (Lecce, Serie B) also received nominations.

CORDOBA CHARITY UNVEILS HOSPITAL BOAT

 MILAN - Ivan Ramiro and Maria Cordoba's Colombia Te Quiere Ver chairty organisation, Milan's San Raffaele hospital, and the Italian Association for Solidarity among Populations (AISPO) presented the La Esperanza project during a press conference this morning.

La Esperanza is a floating boat hospital that provides medical assistance to a part of the Colombian population that still lives on the edge of modern society. Since 2005, volunteers from the San Raffaele hospital have used the boat to give free assistance to over 21,000 people from 33 villages along Colombia's Pacific coastline, but as the Inter defender explained, "it is ready to be admitted to hospital."

Thanks to the help of Inter sponsors and donations raised through Inter Club events, the new floating boat will be equipped with an operating theatre and rooms for in-patients. "I thank Italy and the Italians because they have always shown their sensitivity and generosity down the years, and have always offered a contribution, even a symbolic one," Cordoba said. "They know this in Colombia, and each time I return to my country they ask me to bring back their thanks to Italy, to Inter fans but also those of other teams. All this makes me proud because I know well those areas of Colombia and those situations. I saw them as a child when my father, who was a deliveryboy before becoming a bank executive, repeatedly changed jobs and came into contact with diverse realities.

"It's nice to help and nice to know you're being helped. There's always a smile and a reason not to give up in Colombia, even when you don't know if tomorrow will come. Just think, with 50 eurocents you can offer lunch and a snack to a child through our association. I thank God for everything I have in life, my family and football, and I'm always happier and involved in humanitarian initiatives. I think this is the best way to thank God for what I have received."
