MANCINI, MORATTI ATTEND INTER CLUB EVENT

 MILAN - Over four hundred members from the various Milanese Inter Clubs kicked off the first Wivi l'Inter event of the season, which took place last night in the Executive Suite at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. Roberto Mancini and three members of the coaching staff, Fausto Salsano, Ivan Carminati and Claudio Gaudino, were on stage with Inter Channel's Roberto Scarpini to answer questions from the fans, pose for photos and sign autographs.

On his arrival at the event with sister Bedy, Inter president Massimo Moratti greeted the fans with a few words to remember Giacinto Facchetti. "He was always close to all the fans, particularly in these kind of events," he said.

"We must always be proud of being Interisti, now more than ever before. The team is doing well on the pitch and seems to be balanced, thanks also to the coach. Now we must try and continue on this path to reach the goals we have set."

All the Inter Clubs involved in the first Wivi l'Inter event of 2006/07 were presented with commemorative plates by regional coordinator Luca Cipriani. Funds raised from a lottery will go to the Milan Institute of Tumours.

AZZURRI IN BERGAMO FOR FACCHETTI

 MILAN - From Turkey v Italy to Italy v Turkey. Giacinto Facchetti made his Azzurri debut on 27 March 1963 in Istanbul. He went on to collect 94 appearances for his country, won the European Championship in 1968 and took part in the 1970 World Cup final. Tonight, at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia in Bergamo, near Facchetti's hometown of Treviglio, Italy play Turkey to honour the memory of the 'captain of captains', words inscribed on the commemorative plate to be presented to the late Inter president's family by his former Inter and Italy team-mate Tarcisio Burgnich, and Gigi Riva.

FACCHETTI REMEMBERED IN BERGAMO

 BERGAMO - Wednesday's friendly international between Italy and Turkey at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia was staged to honour the memory of Giacinto Facchetti. Before kick-off Facchetti's former Inter and Italy team-mate Tarcisio Burgnich, and Gigi Riva presented the late Inter president's wife Giovanna with a commemorative plate as his children Gianfelice, Luca, Barbara and Vera watched from the stands with Massimo Moratti.

The unforgotten and unforgettable Inter legend was remembered with applause and chants from the crowd, while the Turkish national team displayed a banner that read 'Honour to the great captain'.

CAMBIASSO WINS GOLDEN PIRATE AWARD

 MILAN - Argentine midfielder Esteban Cambiasso is the twentieth winner of the Pirata d'Oro (Golden Pirate), an annual award given by Inter Club San Pietro Nerazzurra Seveso members to the best Inter player of the year.

Cambiasso thanked IC San Pietro Nerazzurra president Giancarlo Belotti and the fans in attendance at Thursday evening's ceremony, expressing his great satisfaction for the award and promising to give his all to deserve the faith and warmth of Inter fans.

Also in attendance were Bedy Moratti, Gabriele Oriali, Inter and Italy Under-21 defender Marco Andreolli, Evaristo Beccalossi and Fausto Sala of the Inter Club Coordination Centre. The evening was brought to a close with a lottery, all proceeds from which will go to charity.

The Pirata d'Oro award, a 20cm-high gold sculpture of the club's logo on a marble base, is named after former Inter midfielder Giampiero 'The Pirate' Marini, who collected 375 appearances in ten years with the Nerazzurri.

FOOTBALL LEGEND PUSKAS DIES

 MILAN - Ferenc Puskas, considered one of the greatest players of all time and a legend of Hungarian football, died in a Budapest hospital this morning at the age of 79 after a long illness.

Captain of the 'Mighty Magyars' team that dominated world football in the 1950s with its 'Danubian' style, Puskas led Hungary to a famous victory over England at Wembley in 1953, their first defeat on home soil.

The following year Puskas, known as the 'Galloping Major', led Hungary to the World Cup final, scoring one and having a goal disallowed in the final minutes as his side lost 3-2 to Germany, bringing a long unbeaten run to an end.

FC Internazionale offers its condolences to the Puskas family over the death of a legend of world football.

 MILAN - Inter Primavera's Hungarian striker Attila Filkor is deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of Ferenc Puskas. Speaking to Inter.it, Filkor, who made his first-team debut for Inter in last week's Tim Cup match at Messina before receiving his first call-up to the Hungarian national side for Wednesday's friendly international against Canada, said: "Puskas was a legend for us Hungarians; he was our country's best player of all time. The whole world admired him and he was a role model for all young Hungarian footballers. In 2006 the world of football has lost another absolute protagonist after mourning the passing of Giacinto Facchetti."

 MILAN - The F.C. Internazionale Milano board meeting took place this evening at the club's headquarters. The board invested president Massimo Moratti with full powers for the ordinary and extraordinary administration of the club. The board then nominated Angelo Mario Moratti and Rinaldo Ghelfi vice presidents, and Ernesto Paolillo managing director and chief operating officer. A management committee was created, and is made up of the vice presidents and the managing director and chief operating offer. The club's new organisation chart was approved, with Stefano Filucchi in the new position of vice managing director.

The captains, coaches and managers of all the youth teams involved attended the presentation, along with the Moratti family, represented by Milly Moratti, FC Internazionale managing director and chief operating officer Ernesto Paolillo, and first-team members Marco Andreolli and Julio Cesar. Before the presentation began, Dr Paolillo remembered Giacinto Facchetti, underlining the importance of the educational role of sport: "He started in the parish youth clubs, and with far-sightedness opened this road that we must continue on with determination."

MORATTI: "FACCHETTI WOULD BE PROUD"

 MILAN - Speaking to journalists at today's presentation of a new award in memory of Giacinto Facchetti, entitled Il bello del calcio, Massimo Moratti remembered the late Inter president and complimented the Nerazzurri on their current run of form.

"It is a balanced and solid team which inspires confidence. In some ways, this year's team mirrors the character of Facchetti. "I'm sorry he's not here with us to share the team's happiness - the fruit of his equilibrium, strength and loyalty. I think he would have been proud," said Moratti, who replied with words suited to the occasion when quizzed on Inter's transfer targets, the renewal of Roberto Mancini's contract, and the likelihood of new arrivals during the January window.

"Mancini's contract? I don't understand why it's mentioned so much. And I think this topic is destined to remain a mystery today as well," said the Inter president who, when asked if there will be any new arrivals for Christmas, answered: "No, I don't think so. Father Christmas doesn't give this kind of present."

On Inter's season, and in response to those who speak of a championship affected by points penalties and relegations, Moratti added: "Our first place is, more than ever, deserved and legitimate, and should be thoroughly enjoyed while it lasts. If others are forced to start with points penalties it's not the fault of Inter, who should be proud of what they are doing."

The winner of the first Il bello del calcio award is Julio Gonzalez, who until 22 December 2005 was a promising player on the books of Vicenza. That evening he was on his way to the airport to join his family in Paraguay when he lost his left arm and part of his right arm in a car crash. Facchetti's prompt message of sympathy read: "With your strength you will manage to win this match too."

On receiving the award, Gonzalez said: "I have understood that the beauty of the world is life. I have had a lot of people around me with more serious problems than mine, and they were smiling. I'm training and I hope I'll make it. I want to play again; what happened was the will of God. I believe it was a sign because through me, people can see that it is right to believe in dreams."

 MILAN - Giacinto Facchetti, a man of sport and communication, was remembered during a Christmas ceremony held by the Lombard Group of Sports Journalists (GLGS) on Monday. After the ceremony Facchetti's children Barbara and Gianfelice, in attendance along with Inter managing director and CEO Ernesto Paolillo, were presented with an honorary GLGS membership card bearing Giacinto's name.

INTER CAMPUS BULGARIA UPDATE

 MILAN - Inter Campus Worldwide organisational responsible Massimo Seregni and coach Alberto Giacomini are back to base after a visit to the Inter Campus Bulgaria centres in Troyan on the banks of the Beli Osam river and Sapareva Bania on the northern slope of the Rila mountain. Children from the Bania centre and the Romiteli team of Romany children from Lom (on the Romanian border) took part in the training courses and friendly matches arranged.

The Inter Campus delegation, which included Bulgaria IC responsible Paolo Giulini and local project leader Tzetan Tzenov, also visited the ancient Rila Monastery on the homonymous mountain to the southeast of Sofia, which has been selected as one of the images for the 2007 Inter Campus calendar.

 MEZZOCORONA (TRENTO) - Marco Andreolli and Francesco Toldo represented the first team at Thursday's evening's Wivi l'Inter event for the Inter Clubs in Italy's Trentino Alto Adige region. At the Cittadella del Vino, the biggest wine cellar in Europe, the two Nerazzurri players answered questions, signed autographs and posed for photos for the 400 fans in attendance.

The Inter Club Coordination Centre was represented by Emauele Nardi and Fausto Sala, while master of ceremonies for the evening was Inter Channel's Roberto Scarpini. Also in attendance was great Inter fan and ex-cyclist Francesco Moser. Several Inter clubs from the region were presented with commemorative plates: Riva del Garda (founded in 1962), Trento (1963), Bondone (1966), Ala (1976) and Bolzano (1982).

Proceeds from a charity lottery went entirely to the Inter Campus Worldwide project, former player Diego Murari (who has a very rare illness), charity associations Associazione Azione per un Mondo Unito and Associazione Peter Pan, and Dario Girardi, a missionary who works in Mexico.

FIFA AWARDS FOR CRESPO, FACCHETTI

 ZURICH - Inter striker Hernan Crespo picked up the prestigious Silver Show accolade at last night's FIFA World Player awards for the three goals in four games which saw the Argentine become second top scorer at the 2006 World Cup.

During the course of the evening, FIFA president Blatter presented Giacinto Facchetti's wife Giovanna and son Gianfelice with a special Presidential Award to honour the memory of the late Inter president.
