INTER CAMPUS KICKS OFF SEASON IN SLOVAKIA

 MILAN - Inter Campus Worldwide representatives Massimo Seregni, Raffaele Quaranta, Alessio Cacciato and Alberto Giacomini held the first Inter Campus course of 2006/07 in Podbrezova, Slovakia from 16-26 July. Former Inter player Vratislav Gresko, who helped set up the Inter Campus project in Slovakia, attended the course, which was greatly appreciated by the children of all age groups who participated.

Local club and Inter Campus Slovakia sponsor ZP Podbrezova has renewed its commitment to the project for the 2006/07 season, helping to cover the expenses of the projects in less fortunate countries like Cameroon and Bosnia.

Mancini's men twice hit the woodwork: Crespo poked a shot against the post following a flash of brilliance from Ibrahimovic just after the half-hour mark, and second-half sub Alvaro Recoba rattled the Sporting crossbar in the closing stages with a blistering 35-yard drive from a free kick. Figo began his career at Sporting sixteen years ago and spent six seasons at the club before transferring to Barcelona. At Sporting he made his name as part of the 'golden generation' of Portuguese youngsters who won World U16 and U20 titles in 1989 and 1990.

 APPIANO GENTILE - At Angelo Moratti Sports centre this afternoon Argentine midfielder Esteban Cambiasso received the Inter Club Malta（国际米兰马尔塔球迷协会） award as best Nerazzurri player of the 2005/06 season. Several representatives of IC Malta（马尔塔协会）, founded twenty years ago and now the largest Inter Club, were guests of Inter today at the club's training facility. Welcomed by Inter Club Coordination Centre director Fausto Sala（国际米兰球迷协会主席协调主任法索托·萨拉） the IC Malta members met Cambiasso, who was presented with the award by president Jhon Zammit（马尔塔球迷协会主席乔·扎密特）. The player returned the compliment by posing for photos and signing autographs.

 APPIANO GENTILE - A warm-up with Paolo Orlandoni and Fabian Carini, coordinated by Inter's goalkeeper coach Giulio Nuciari, a series of fine saves from Figo, Adriano, Zanetti & co during shooting practice, and an impressive performance in the eight-a-side practice match that brought today's training session to a close. At Angelo Moratti Sports Centre this morning 17-year-old Chinese goalkeeper Wang Dalei made a promising start to ten days of training with the Nerazzurri, part of a new technical and communications project between Inter and Chinese football to help develop emerging players who are part of the national Under-21 team. Wang will be joined in Milan on Friday by his U-21 colleague Zhang Wenzhao, a promising young left-winger.

Inter became the first western footall club to promote the development of Chinese football in 1978 when ex-Inter director Sandro Mazzola replied to an invitation from the Chinese government's National Sports Bureau, sending coach Gianni Invernizzi to provide technical support to Su Yongshen's national team. Inter has maintained strong links with China since then, particularly in recent years with initiatives such as the participation of Inter Campus Qingdao children in friendly matches and summer camps at Inter Campus Italy clubs, the summer friendly match against Shanghai International (now called Xi'an Chanba) in Trento in 2004, and last season's Serie A matches against Livorno and Lazio with the Pirelli logo on Inter's shirts in Chinese characters. More China-related initiatives will follow in the coming months as part of Inter's global brand development project.

The tradition continues with the arrival at Inter of two talented upcoming Chinese players. Wang Dalei, born on 10 January 1989 in Dalian in the northeastern province of Liaoning, is considered a phenomenon by the Chinese media for his quick reflexes, speed at moving off his line and the maturity with which he commands his defence. Wang is 1.87m tall and is still growing, but the 17-year-old regular between the posts at Shanghai United FC has already won recognition in his short playing career. At the U-17 World Championship in Japan in 2004 Wang became the first goalkeeper to receive the tournament's MVP award. In the same year he represented China at the U-19 World Championship and earned himself a trial at French club Lille. In 2005 he was one of the stars at the U-17 World Championship in Peru, and was runner-up in the AFC's Youth Player of the Year award. Called up to the Chinese Olympic team in 2006, Wang was named in Zhu Guanghu's men's national team for a training camp in August.

Zhang Wenzhao, who arrives in Italy on Friday, also hails from the fertile ground of footballing talent that is Liaoning province. A left-sided midfielder born on 28 May 1987 in Anshan, Zhang plays his club football for Shenzhen Kingway. A quick and agile winger, Zhang is known for his crossing and dribbling ability. He is a regular in the Chinese U-21 national team.

Both Wang Dalei and Zhang Wenzhao were protagonists in China's 3-1 victory over South Africa in the Sesol Cup final in January. With ten minutes of normal time remaining Zhang put China in front with a precise shot from 14 yards before setting up his country's third goal with a pin-point cross four minutes later. Wang saved a penalty in stoppage time to conserve China's two-goal lead.

 MILAN - Inter expresses its condolences to the family of former Nerazzurri midfielder Pietro Broccini, who died in San Remo last night. Born in Portovenere, La Spezia province on 2 January 1928, Brocconi played for Inter during the 1950s. He collected 33 appearances, scored 14 goals and won 2 Scudettos, in 1952/53 and 1953/54.

Giacinto Facchetti was born in Treviglio, Bergamo province on 18 July 1942. A gifted all-round sportsman in his youth, he played football for his local team and achieved good results in youth athletics championships. At the age of sixteen he was already a promising young player courted by Bergamo-based side Atalanta and Inter. Facchetti chose the Milanese Nerazzurri, and would go on to become a legend.

Facchetti made his Italian top-flight debut on 21 May 1961 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Inter beat Roma 2-0. The following Sunday in Milan he scored the first of his 59 goals for Inter in a match against Napoli. It was Helenio Herrera, coach of the strongest Inter side of all time, who combined Facchetti attacking and defending abilities and invented the role of wing-back.

During his playing career Facchetti won 4 Italian league titles, 2 European Cups, 2 Intercontinental Cups and a Coppa Italia. He collected a total of 476 Serie A appearances for Inter. His international career was just as extraordinary: 94 Italy caps including 70 as captain, a European championship winner in Italy in 1968 and a World Cup finalist in Mexico in 1970.

After hanging up his boots, Facchetti took up various managerial positions at the club, including technical director, board member, worldwide ambassador and vice president. On 30 January 2004 Massimo Moratti handed him the highest office: Facchetti was the first player in Inter's history to become president. Under his administration, Inter won a Scudetto, two Italian Cups and two Italian Super Cups.

Considered an icon of world football, Facchetti held a number of institutional roles within FIFA and UEFA along with the great champions who have written the history of the sport.

From Friday 8 September 2006, Argentine defender Nicolas Burdisso will wear the number 16 shirt. "I am proud to be the last Inter player to wear the number 3 shirt," Burdisso said. "I am honoured to change number today as a mark of respect for and in memory of Giacinto Facchetti, a man and not just a president, who was very close to me when I went through a difficult time with my family."

 MILAN - Inter's Giovanissimi Nazionali squad paraded the pitch at the Giuseppe Meazza during the half-time break of Inter v Chievo to receive an award for their incredible Scudetto-winning 2005/06 campaign, in which the U15s remained undefeated, with 21 wins and a draw. The young Nerazzurri scored 70 goals, conceding just 4, and ended the regular season with a 14-point advantage over second-placed AC Milan.

 BEIJING - F.C. Internazionale Milano has signed an exclusive partnership with leading Chinese Internet portal Sina.com to develop, host and promote a Mandarin Chinese-language version of its official website inter.it, which was unveiled today in a press conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Beijing. Inter's Chinese website was officially launched by representatives of both parties - Mr Chen Tong, senior vice president and chief editor of Sina.com, and Mr Angelo Mario Moratti, president of Inter Brand. Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso took part in the event via videoconference from Milan.

Under the terms of the agreement, Sina will provide a range of Inter-related content to the global Chinese community, to include latest club news and photos, live scores and match reports, in-depth statistics and player profiles.

Sina is a leading online media company and value-added information service provider in China and global Chinese communities. With a branded network of localized websites targeting Greater China and overseas Chinese, it provides services through five major business lines, providing an array of services including region-focused online portals, mobile value-added services, search and directory, interest-based and community-building channels, free and premium email, online games, virtual ISP, classified listings, fee-based services, e-commerce, and enterprise e-solutions.

Inter has forged strong links with China in recent years with initiatives such as the Inter Campus project in Qingdao, the friendly match against China Super League club Shanghai International in Trento in 2004, and last season's Serie A matches against Livorno and Lazio with the Pirelli logo on Inter's shirts translated in Chinese characters. Earlier this month, Chinese U21 internationals Wang Dalei and Zhang Wenzhao spent ten days training with Roberto Mancini and the Nerazzurri as part of a project to help develop China's emerging talents ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The Mandarin Chinese-language version of inter.it is the latest of a series of projects aimed at bringing the club closer to its supporters in China and Chinese-speaking communities worldwide.

ESPN CLASSIC'S TRIBUTE TO FACCHETTI

 MILAN - On Friday 29 September Espn Classic's Italian-language channel will pay tribute to Giacinto Facchetti, whose attacking and defending abilities were combined to invent the role of the modern full-back. The evening of football will begin with a programme entitled 'Pure tactics - Facchetti, a full-back with a licence to advance down the wing and... score: a tactical analysis of his role through interviews with the protagonists of those days: Helenio Herrera, Sandro Mazzola, Mario Corso, and Facchetti himself'. The evening continues with a re-run of Inter's European Cup final victory over Benfica at the San Siro on 27 May 1965.

About the match:
Before the final, Herrera spoke confidently of his team's chances: "We are now more conscious of our strength. Last year we were not so sure of ourselves. Now, with so much in our favour we know we can win well and win attractively. We hope to lead Europe for many many years." With eight of the side that had so brilliantly defeated the great Real Madrid just three years earlier still in their line-up, however, Benfica had enough experience to know that they had every chance of spoiling the San Siro party. Playing the mighty Internazionale in front of 89,000 of their fanatical supporters in a wet San Siro stadium, however, was to prove too much, even for a team as good as Benfica. Despite an inspirational performance from their captain Coluna in midfield, Benfica were undone by a single goal from Jair just before half time when his shot slipped through the arms of Costa Pereira. Only one team had managed to score a European Cup goal against Inter at the San Siro that season, and that had come for Rangers when they were already three goals behind, so a solitary goal was always likely to be enough for the holders on their home ground. As expected, the door bolt was fixed firmly in place throughout the second half and the European Cup stayed in Milan for another year. It looked as though it would take something remarkable to prise it away. Catenaccio now ruled Europe and it was proving impossible to overcome, with Inter now holding the championships of both Europe and Italy. For Internazionale this was a glorious era that had no end in sight. Now they were out to collect a hat-trick of European titles, and there was no reason to think that Herrera and catenaccio would fail in their quest.
