The champions statistics
   

  After 36 matches Barcelona are now the league champions. But along with all the celebrations, there are a large number of interesting statistics and curiosities that this season has thrown up. Below are the facts and figures.


This championship victory is Barcelona's 17th league title.

- Of all the players that appeared this season, Demetrio Albertini is the oldest. The Italian will be 34 in August. The youngest was Leo Messi who played when he was 17 years, ten months and seven days old.

- Barcelona's 69 league goals were scored by 12 players this season as Samuel Eto'o, Gio Van Bronkhorst, Xavi, Henrik Larsson, Deco, Ludo Giuly, Ronaldinho, Andres Iniesta, Leo Messi, Oleguer and Gerard all hit the target this term. Eto'os 25 goals represent 36 per cent of the team's goals, while Messi and Oleguer managed just one each.

Squad in good spirits at training
   
  
  The Barcelona first team squad returned to training after their title celebrations in good humour. The only players missing from the first session after the title party were Leo Messi and Damia, who were with the B team.

Back to the B team

Messi and Damia have returned to B team action in order to help Pere Gratacos' side in the final weeks of their campaign. Rijkaard allowed the pair to drop back down as he will have all the long-term injury victims back in action on Sunday and will, hopefully, not have to dip into the B side again this season for cover.

Barca players pan out across the world

Iniesta and Messi away on duty too

Two other players who are away on international duty are Andres Iniesta, who has been called up for Spain's under-21 side to play against Lithuania and Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Leo Messi who will particippate in the under-20 World Cup tournament in Holland from June 10 to July 2. Javito from Barca's B team will also be playing in the competition.

As soon as the presentation of Mark Van Bommel had concluded, Txiki Begiristain spoke about the chances of any more players joining the club: "You can never say that the squad is definitive, and a lot depends on what the market throws up. We are very happy with the squad now that it includes Van Bommel and Ezquerro. If we can get the injured players back, then that would be six more players, as well as Messi and Damià."

Messi leads Argentina to victory
  
  Leo Messi starred for the Argentine under 20s in their 2-0 win over Egypt in the second round of games of the World Under 20s Cup in Holland.


The Barca striker scored the first goal for the Argentineans and helped put his team back on track after their surprise 0-1 defeat to USA in the first game of the tournament.

Messi had started the first game on the bench, but his performance against Egypt showed how important he could be during this tournament. Argentina can still make the next round if they beat Germany in their final group game. The Germans are joint top with USA on 4 points after the two fought out a goalless draw.

  Leo Messi led Argentina to victory over Spain in the Under-20 World Cup quarter finals with an assist and a goal in a 3-1 win.


Messi is rapidly becoming the dominant figure in the Argentine side and his team will now go on to play Brazil in the semis next Tuesday evening in what promises to be another great stage for the Barca striker to show off his precocious talents.

Argentina dominate early on

Argentina strangled the Spanish midfield from the start and were soon finding opportunities to attack themselves, with Messi having a goal disallowed for offside as early as the tenth minute. Eight minutes later, the South Americans were ahead thanks to a goal from Zabaleta. Spain hit back through Zapater after good work by Fernando Llorente and although both teams had chances to go ahead, with Messi again prominent for Argentina, it was still 1-1 at half time.

Messi makes his mark

Spain's improvement continued after the break as their midfield began to see more of possession, but it was Argentina who took their chances, first when Messi put through second half sub Oberman on 72 minutes, then two minutes later when he rounded off a speedy counterattack by scoring himself.

Barça stars in double classic
   

  Games between Brazil and Argentina are always historic occasions, with plenty of rivalry at stake. Two Barça players will be involved in two different versions of the classic encounter to be played over the next 48 hours.


This Tuesday, in the semi finals of the Under-20 World Cup, and 24 hours later in the Confederations Cup Final, there will be two new episodes in the long history of rivalry between Brazil and Argentina. And in both games, there will be a Barcelona star in the spotlight. Ronaldinho is the central figure in the Brazilian first team, while Messi is being cited as one of the next big things in Argentinian soccer.


Messi confirms status

Leo Messi, just turned eighteen, started the Under 20 World Cup on the bench. That game against the USA was Argentina's only defeat in the tournament. And now that he's getting his chance, Messi is reminding his countrymen just what a bright future he has in front of him.

FIFA's official website describes Messi as 'the new pearl of Argentinian football', and the player has scored three goals in the tournament. His best game was the last, where his one goal and one assist were decisive in knocking the Spanish out at the quarterfinal stage.

  This Tuesday, Lionel Messi has signed an agreement to extend his contract with FC Barcelona until 2010. His new contract includes a 150 million euro withdrawal clause.


One week after his eighteenth birthday, Lionel Messi has been given the best present he could have wished for. Barça technical secretary, Txiki Begiristain, travelled to the Dutch town of Utrecht, accompanied by the player's father, to watch the Under 20 World Cup semi final between Brazil and Argentina, and at the same time sealed an agreement for Lionel Messi to stay with FC Barcelona until June 30, 2010

New payment structure

His withdrawal clause has been set at 150 million euros and adapts the players wages to those of other first team stars, with one fixed payment and another that will vary depending on how much first team football he plays and in what competitions over the coming seasons.

Txiki: "Messi has stuck with Barça"

Txiki Begiristain, speaking to fcbarcelona.com, has said he is very pleased with the settlement: "Messi has stuck with Barça and we have plenty of faith in the player. We are sure that from now on he is going to be playing a lot more first team football. Messi is useful for changing the speed and dynamics of many games, he is very quick, confident on the pitch and has extraordinary technical skill. He is going to have a successful time in the Barça first team".

First team debut

After a tremendous 2003-04 season in which he made the leap from the youth B team to the full reserves, Leo Messi started this campaign in Barça B, but enjoyed several call ups for first team duty. Rijkaard's team was plagued by injuries, and Messi was impressing in the reserves and was given the opportunity to fill in at the highest level. His league debut was on October 17 in the Espanyol derby at Montjuic (0-1).

But the biggest day of all was May 1, when he scored against Albacete to become the youngest person ever to hit the target for Barça in a league match. He was 17 years 10 months and 7 days old at the time. That was the first of what will surely be many more goals for the Argentinian star in the Barcelona colours. At only 18, his best years are yet to come.

刚刚在QQ上得到一个惊爆的消息，今天刚刚确定巴塞罗纳今年8月3日将带梅西来澳门，对阵中国联赛冠军深圳健力宝！

格瑞曼特抓住巨人杀手的荣誉（1－0）

巴萨在周三西班牙杯的首轮比赛中爆冷不敌巨人杀手格瑞曼特，被淘汰出局。尽管里杰卡尔德的球队在比赛中占尽优势，但是他们却未能把那些数不清的机会中的哪怕一个转化成进球。

哈维：“我们对预备队员有信心”
