Crespo and Veron back for Argentina

Hernan Crespo's return to the forefront of the world game was confirmed when he was restored to the Argentine
national side.

Injuries and poor form hampered Crespo at Chelsea last term and he slipped out of the reckoning for a place in
Marcelo Bielsa's side.

A summer move to Milan has revived his fortunes and Bielsa has opted to take advantage of Crespo's new-found
confidence by handing him a place in his squad for the friendly with Japan in Tokyo on August 18.

A solid performance could see the striker cement a place in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Squad for the trip to Tokyo:
Leonardo Franco, Oscar Ustari, Gabriel Milito, Diego Placente, Facundo Quiroga, Gonzalo Rodriguez, Walter
Samuel, Lionel Scaloni, Lucas Bernardi, Esteban Cambiasso, Maximiliano Rodriguez, Mario Santana, Juan Sebastian
Veron, Pablo Aimar, Ariel Ibagaza, Juan Roman Riquelme, Hernan Crespo, Luciano Galletti and Diego Milito.

The team will be led by Claudio Vivas as Bielsa has opted to stay with the Olympic squad in Greece.

Milan refuse to release Crespo

Buenos Aires, 12 August 2004 - 19:04 hs. Milan have refused to release Crespo on the orders of its coach.

The Argentine forward will be unable to play in the national team's friendly against Japan next
Wednesday. Carlo  Ancelotti, Milan coach, wants him in his squad for the Italian Supercoppa match against
Lazio on the 21st of this month.

As requested by their coach, Carlo Ancelotti, Milan have refused to release the forward Hernán Crespo for
the Argentine national team's tour to Japan next Wednesday. Ancelotti also does not want to release the
Brazilians Dida, Cafú and Kaká for another friendly in the tournament in Haiti because he wants them all in his
squad line-up against Lazio in the Italian Supercoppa match on the 21st of this month.

In addition, Milan wants to prepare with all its team members for the beginning of the 2004/05 championship,
that will begin on 12 September, when the Italian league champions will meet the newly promoted Livorno at
home.

Crespo - who missed the Copa America and will not go to the Olympic Games in Athens as one of the three
players aged over 23  allowed - had been called up by coach Marcelo Bielsa for the match against Japan
along with other players closely identified with the national team -  Walter Samuel, Pablo Aimar and Juan
Sebastián Verón.

Argentina will leave for Japan next Wednesday at 0715 hours in Buenos Aires for the Shizuoka Cup, a friendly
which will earn the AFA 850,000 dollars.

El delantero argentino no podrá jugar el partido amistoso de la selección nacional frente a Japón, el
próximo miércoles. Carlo Ancelotti, técnico del club milanés, lo quiere tener en su plantel  para disputar el
encuentro ante la Lazio, el 21 de este mes, por la Supercopa italiana.

Por expreso pedido de su entrenador, Carlo Ancelotti, el Milan de Italia se negó a ceder al delantero
Hernán Crespo para el amistoso que el seleccionado argentino sostendrá el próximo miércoles como
visitante ante Japón. Ancelotti tampoco aceptó ceder a los brasile?os Dida, Cafú y Kaká para otro
amistoso que el pentacampeón mundial jugará ante Haití debido a que quiere tener a todo su plantel a
disposición para afrontar la Supercopa italiana que el Milan definirá ante la Lazio el 21 de este mes.

Además, el Milan desea prepararse con todos sus integrantes para el inicio del campeonato 2004/05, que
comenzará el 12 de septiembre, día en que el último campeón de la Liga italiana recibirá al ascendido
Livorno, según el fixture sorteado hoy.

Crespo, que se perdió la Copa América y tampoco fue a los Juegos Olímpicos de Atenas entre los tres
mayores de 23 a?os permitidos, había sido convocado por el entrenador Marcelo Bielsa para el ensayo
ante Japón junto con otros jugadores muy identificados con el seleccionado como Walter Samuel, Pablo
Aimar y Juan Sebastián Verón.

Argentina visitará a Japón el próximo miércoles desde las 7.15 hora de Buenos Aires en el estadio Ecopa de
Shizuoka, en un amistoso por el que la AFA percibirá 850 mil dólares.
