Argentinean players celebrate one of the goals in the thrashing

The Argentinean national team confirmed their status as hot favourites by making short work of Ecuador with a 6-1
demolition. The match was sealed in the second half, when the Argentineans made the most of the superior talent of
their players to score 5 goals. The standout of the match was Saviola, who claimed a hat-trick. The other goals were
scored by Cristian 'Kily' Gonzalez (penalty), D'Alessandro and Luis Gonzalez. Delgado scored the consolation for Ecuador.

With his job at stake, coach Marcelo Bielsa sent his team forward, with midfielder Luis Gonzalez and striker César Delgado
wide open on the right flank, Saviola breaking down the middle and Number 10 D'Alessandro and Kily Gonzales arriving
from behind for support. This way, the team scored the opener on 4 minutes, with Kily converting a spot-kick earned by
Delgado. After squandering three incredible chances with Saviola and Delgado, Argentina took the foot off the gas and
Ecuador offered some resistance in the final 15 minutes of the first half.

In the second half, coach Hernan Dario Gomez fixed his team's marking system and Ecuador managed to hold back the
Argentinean momentum. Trying to be too perfectionist, the Argentinean strikers squandered several opportunities and
allowed Ecuador to counter-attack. On 17 minutes, Agustin Delgado, who came on in the first half, stormed into the box
and struck in between the defenders to equal the scores. This goal spurred Argentina into action and within 15 minutes,
Javier Saviola's star shone brightly, with the player scoring a hat-trick. The match became a stroll in the park and there
was time still for D'Alessandro and Luis Gonzales to add their names to the scoresheet and seal a 6-1 victory.

"We weren't expecting such a huge result"



Barcelona forward Javier Saviola, creator of three of the Argentine national team's six goals against Ecuador, said that
he did not expect "such a huge result" in their Copa America debut.

"We really weren't expecting a result, but luckily we got one," said the young striker, euphoric after scoring his three
goals in the second half. "This victory gives us confidence, desire and a great motivation for the rest of the tournament
and that's very important. Hopefully we can repeat this performance, " added El Conejito, after the game ended against
the Ecuadorians in the Elías Aguirre Stadium, in Chiclayo.

Midfielder Andrés D'Alessandro described the Argentine national team's performance as "impressive", while saying that
he was very happy to have converted a goal with his weaker right foot.

"The team played some very good football, creating several situations for scoring goals, but the difference in this game
was that we could make them count," he said.

Newell's forward Mauro Rosales, who replaced Cesar Delgado in the second half, was sure that Argentina's strength was
the patience in not despairing after the temporary draw with Ecuador. "The team had the necessary patience which was
a major strength, since they did not lose hope right after the draw with Ecuador. We passed the ball, we were very sharp
and we were effective."

Finally, when asked whether he had imagined that the national team would score so many goals, the striker was honest:
"We never thought that we could get a result like this, although I was always optimistic about our performance."

El delantero del Barcelona espanol, Javier Saviola, la figura excluyente del seleccionado argentino y autor de tres de los
seis tantos en la goleada ante Ecuador, senaló que no esperaba un "resultado tan abultado" como el que consiguió en el
debut en la Copa América.

"Realmente no esperábamos un resultado, pero por suerte se nos dio", manifestó, eufórico, el joven atacante, quien
marcó sus tres tantos en la segunda etapa. "Esta victoria nos da confianza, ganas y una gran motivación para lo que
resta del torneo y eso es muy importante. Ojalá podamos repetir esta actuación", agregó el Conejito, apenas finalizado el
partido ante los ecuatorianos en el estadio Elías Aguirre, de Chiclayo.

Por su parte, el mediocampista Andrés D'Alessandro calificó de "impresionante" la actuación del seleccionado argentino, a
la vez que se mostró muy feliz por haber convertido un gol con su pierna menos hábil, la derecha.

"El equipo tuvo pasajes de muy buen fútbol, como otras veces creó varias situaciones de gol, con la diferencia que en
este partido pudimos concretarlas", amplió el volante del Wolfsburgo alemán.

En tanto, el delantero de Newell's, Mauro Rosales, quien en la segunda etapa reemplazó a César Delgado, aseguró que la
virtud de Argentina fue la paciencia para no desesperarse luego del transitorio empate de Ecuador. "El equipo tuvo la
paciencia necesaria como mayor virtud, ya que no se desesperó luego del empate de Ecuador. Hicimos circular la pelota,
llegamos con mucha claridad y fuimos efectivos", precisó.

Finalmente, cuando se lo consultó acerca de si imaginaba una goleada como la que consiguió el seleccionado nacional, el
atacante fue sincero: "Nunca pensamos que se podía dar un resultado así, aunque siempre fui optimista de nuestro
rendimiento".
