Argentinian Torneo Clausura to kick off

BUENOS AIRES, Feb 13 (SW) - The Argentinain Torneo Clausura kicks off this weekend with several interesting games.

This championship is more important than the Torneo Apertura which was won in December by Boca Juniors because all the teams fight for something.

As usual, the candidates River Plate, Boca Juniors, San Lorenzo, Racing Club and Independiente will fight for the title.

River are betting on getting the striker Marcelo Salas and the midfielder Marcelo Gallardo recovered, also counting on the striker Fernando Cavenaghi.

Boca didn't change too much but have coach Carlos Bianchi to motivate his players to be title candidates.

San Lorenzo got the midfielder Leandro Romagnoli recovered and Independiente reinforced the team with the Colombian striker Jairo Castillo while Racing bet on the young players from the youth divisions.

Other teams will have to fight for getting away from the relegation zone, like Chacarita Juniors, Nueva Chicago, Talleres de Córdoba and Atlético de Rafaela. This last team reinforced the squad with a striker who played for Peñarol from Montevideo, Daniel Jimenez.

In addition to this, all the teams can fight for three or four places in the Copa Libertadores 2005 and for the Copa Sudamericana 2004, so they all have something to think about.

The other new thing about the Torneo Clausura will be the ball that will be used this season. It is the Tango, the Argentinian ball that was used at the World Cup 1978 that has been recreated with very new and modern techniques. It's manufactured by Adidas and it will replace the Brazilian ball Penalty that has been used in the last four seasons.

On Saturday, Racing Club will receive Colon de Santa Fe. Both teams have new coaches for the upcoming season. At Racing, the ex goalkeeper Ubaldo Matildo Fillol and at Colon the Colombian Francisco Maturana.

Velez Sarsfield (with Chilavert for the Torneo Clausura) will receive Rosario Central, Newell's will play in Rosario against Banfield and Chacarita will receive San Lorenzo.

Sunday games: Nueva Chicago vs River Plate, Estudiantes (Asprilla will not play until the third round) vs Independiente, Lanus vs Olimpo, Atletico de Rafaela vs Quilmes, Talleres vs Arsenal and Boca vs Gimnasia.
