　　从目前掌握的情况看来，周六萨内蒂将会出现在国家队新帅巴西莱的大名单中。从Pupi那里我们听到了他对伊巴拉、佩克尔曼、梅西和巴西队的看法。

　　伊巴拉称佩克尔曼在球队建设过程中没有重视边路，因为他没有召你俩。你怎么看？
　　当然不是（回答得极快）。这种说法是对其他边路孩子们的不尊重，他们已经尽可能的做了力所能及的事。我知道那些球员从某个角度来讲，也许什么都没做到……

　　你已经从自己的世界杯落选中超脱出来了吗？
　　“虽然那段时间确实很低落，但我不会被击倒。我还有强大的实力去获得新机会。没进入最终的23人大名单、只能成为场外支持者让我在国家队被淘汰出局时更感难受。我和家人一起看了阿根廷世界杯的所有比赛。那种感觉非常痛苦，球场内外对国家队支持的感受是完全不同的。我本来应该去德国接受奖章（注：大名单公布前，FIFA和联合国合作的儿童大使发出的世界杯期间活动邀请），但我最后作出谢绝：已经没有意义了。”

　　当佩克尔曼没把梅西换上场的那一刻你是否感觉不妙？
　　我当时认为德国人不会进球了，我们那时的防守很好。至于梅西，我保证：他的表现让所有的阿根廷人都充满了期待。但是教练作出的决定是让他待在场边……耐心等待吧，Lionel（梅西昵称）有着不可限量的未来，我们将会在漫长的光阴里看到他的惊人表演。

　　你是否介意提起佩克尔曼的名字？还让你继续受伤吗？
　　是的，就世界杯的事来说我仍然很难受。我保留自己伤心的资格，但不因为佩克尔曼。教练的事已经过去了，选择的机会只有一次。

　　如果以后你们碰面了，你会若无其事的向他问好呢？还是就事论事，或者闭口不言？
　　打招呼和他本身是谁没关系。但仅此而已，不会聊别的什么了。一切尽在当事人双方的不言中。

　　怎么看现在巴西莱手下的这支国家队呢？
　　他是一位很好的阿根廷足球教练，获得过两次美洲杯冠军……他在94年指挥的那届国家队也是王者之队。和所有的阿根廷人一样，我们都很喜欢他的指挥风格。

　　有消息称他很重视你，他的球队边路进攻很多？
　　是的，在他的球队里担任边路球员对我来说是一种诱惑。这让我能凭借出色的表现而再次被人们肯定。我说过，从没考虑退出国家队。

　　就国家队大名单，你对你的朋友说过什么吗？
　　虽然实际上我从未怀疑过，但我还是得说出来：我能回到国家队。我和妻子谈过这个想法，我有个出色的季前赛，没人能阻止自己实现梦想。我一直通过互联网关注国家队情况：接到电话时的那一刻我很激动，接下来就像他和Cuchu对话时谈的内容一样。他犹豫过，但他知道像我这样一个球员的重要性。他最终下了决心，虽然可能还不太敢说这个抉择如何。

　　那么，你已经为9月3日留出时间了？
　　对国家队，我始终如此。

　　06世界杯不是属于他的舞台，这是一件罕见的事。即使如此，萨内蒂也是队内当仁不让的攻守平衡型球员。没有带他去德国的何塞也肯定了不是因为能力问题放弃的Pupi。在可能打4后卫的巴西莱手下，国际米兰的队长看起来比斯卡罗尼、库福雷、科洛尼奇坐镇右路的可能性更大。而在他身后，法拉里、萨巴莱塔将会通过2007年美洲杯的耳渲目染成长起来。

伊巴拉的意外受伤使巴西莱不得不再次考虑召入萨内蒂的可能性。

新组建的球队第一个倒霉鬼降临在伊巴拉身上：由于大腿肌肉拉伤，他将缺席客场对圣洛伦索的比赛和9月3日在伦敦对巴西的友谊赛。伊巴拉受伤地方是左大腿。

他的伤和世界杯对塞黑时受伤的Lucho相似，后者从6月16日受伤开始足足用了14天，6月30日才重新站在了柏林球场上。而小黑（伊巴拉的外号）在周六对独立比赛中的受伤让他不可能站在枪手的球场上了。据说巴西莱将和他的教练组在周一宣布顶替这位球员的替补人选。

现在看来这名球员必须具备萨瓦莱塔的边路突破能力和科洛尼奇的勇猛。所以萨内蒂可以说是伊巴拉的不二替换人选。实际上，30人大名单中，Pupi是唯一一个在记者预测中在列却没有得到电话通知的人。但其他候选人如斯卡罗尼等被转会所困扰，直接不具备让巴西莱召唤的理由。另外还有一个重要原因是俱乐部。他们要浪费俱乐部15天时间，这会让球员在新加入的俱乐部留下不好印象。相反，众所周知，身为国际米兰队长的萨内蒂不存在这个顾虑……

 APPIANO GENTILE - "They are important teams and difficult to face on the pitch, and not just because of their names and the tradition they have earned in Europe," said Inter captain Javier Zanetti after watching the Champions League group stage draw with his colleagues in Appiano Gentile.

Inter are in Group B with Bayern Munich, Sporting Lisbon and Spartak Moscow in Group B, a tough draw on paper. But Zanetti knows what European competitions are all about: "We know what difficulties there are in the Champions League and we also know that we really want to do well in this competition, so we will approach the matches knowing that we represent a club with a great international history."

A pocos metros del césped del estadio Giuseppe Meazza se encuentra el museo Inter & Milan. Allí, en las entrañas del gigante de cemento, está comprimida la historia de los dos colosos de la ciudad. Es cuestión de entrar por la puerta 21 y comenzar una recorrida fascinante. De repente, cruzar una puerta introduce al visitante en un salón donde 24 estatuas de tamaño real muestran a los personajes más gloriosos en la centenaria vida de cada club. Están intercalados, uno y uno. ¿Quiénes? Cuando pasado mañana juegue ante Fiorentina, en la apertura de la Liga italiana, Zanetti abrirá su año número 12 y será el extranjero con más temporadas en el calcio. “En Italia siento que me valoran más que en la Argentina. Aquí me valoran muchísimo… Son 12 años en el mismo club…, en un club de primer nivel… eso debe ser por algo, ¿no? Tengo contrato hasta 2010 y, de cumplirse ese lapso, voy a haber jugado 15 años en Inter, un caso excepcional para un extranjero. El otro día hablábamos con Hernán (por Crespo) y coincidíamos en que en la Argentina se desprecia al que triunfa en el exterior. Cuando llegan las convocatorias para la selección, se escucha... …«Nooo, otra vez Zanetti…, volvieron a llamar a Crespo…» Y nadie se detiene en pensar, pero algo deben tener estos tipos si allá los quieren, no los echan a patadas. Y mirá que en Europa es difícil, acá nadie te regala nada.”

–¿En 2010 se termina tu carrera o querés volver a jugar en la Argentina?
–Y… en 2010 voy a tener 37 años, no creo que me quede mucho a esa altura. Pero nunca se sabe.. A veces pienso que me gustaría jugar al menos un año, el último, en un lugar para divertirme, sin presiones.

–¿Y pensás en Banfield…, en Talleres de Remedios de Escalada?
–Y… son dos lugares que quiero mucho... Pero habrá que ver cómo está todo en ese momento, porque una decisión así afecta a la familia. Son muchas cosas las que se ponen en juego.

–¿Y después qué?
–Técnico seguro que no voy a ser. Me imagino vinculado con Inter de alguna manera…, manager, director deportivo… no sé. Algo así me entusiasma mucho.

“在意大利我得的重视比阿根廷更多，球迷给我非常多的支持……换成其它的顶级俱乐部也会这样。而且我和俱乐部的合同签到了2010年，到那时，我就在国际米兰呆15年了，这对一个外国人来说算是特殊情况。最近我们和赫尔南（克雷斯波）聊起这件事，觉得彼此都是那种在海外成功、却被国内藐视的阿根廷球员。但只要国家队召唤我们，义不容辞……不，不不不，我再说，克雷斯波应该是会再次入选的……同时大家都认为，他们的奔波不会被俱乐部所刁难，但如果国家队召唤了他们，必然会埋下一些种子。虽然不会让他们被解雇，但会给他们的欧洲之旅增加麻烦……要知道，这里没有任何人可以给流浪者依靠。”

你将在2010年退役吗？或者回到阿根廷继续踢球？
“呃……2010年，我都37岁‘高龄’了。对很多人来说，这是个该退役的年龄，但我不信，人体机能不可同一而定。我常在想：能有个没压力的地方，成为我职业生涯最后一年停留的港湾就好了。”

那是班菲尔德……还是塔尔雷斯（Talleres）？
“两个地方都不错，但得先看看那时事情会怎么演变吧。因为我必须考虑家里的人，他们的生活被牵扯进我的职业太久了。”

再之后呢（指退役）？
“我肯定不会当什么教练。我想将来的生活能和国际米兰有交集……经理、运动指导……我也不知道，反正这样做能使我充满热情和干劲。”

从电话里传出索尔牙牙学语的声音，在意大利伦巴底大区科莫湖畔的莫尔塔西欧（Moltrasio）小镇家中，四处都挂着她的照片。14个月以来萨内蒂家庭的生活因为她而完全改变：哈维尔和妻子葆拉就像迪斯尼影片中描绘的那样，成了尿布、婴儿食品、奶瓶的专家。不过小索尔却像幸运天使那样，给父亲带来了更多冠军。在她出生前，萨内蒂在国际米兰只获得过一个联合会杯；当她出生到现在为止，已经带来了5项桂冠——联赛冠军一个、意大利杯和意大利超级杯各两个。“我问过一千次‘为什么？为什么会是这个样子？’因为经历的时光冉冉，却得不到冠军，付出都需要有回报来作为肯定的奖励。现在行了，起码一年半里我们不用再遇到比赛里那些令人莫名其妙的事了。足球就是这样：所有的事情迟早会得到应得的回报。爱情会有的，面包会有的，你看，‘太阳’的到来就好像带来了一个面包店。”哈维尔笑着开玩笑道。

虽然获得了联赛冠军，但方式很奇怪。
“为什么这么说呢？当我们拿到了应得的冠军时，感觉是巨大的幸福。这也证明了从前我怀疑过的事，就像在这11年中我一直听到的传闻那样。我们获得了冠军，但重要的是真相被揭露了，哪怕他们积分只排到第三、第四或者更次，但重要的是对道德的认识和诚实的工作。”

但你不喜欢通过法院来赢得冠军吧？
“我们是通过自己的努力获得冠军的！（超激动的语气，不愧是国际人的敏感话题）我们所有的积分都是自己脚踏实地所得。而且通过法院的调查，所有的积分都是没有问题的，没有谁的积分能超过我们。其它的人则无法通过调查。”

现在尤文图斯降入乙级，AC米兰又被扣除了联赛积分，国际米兰能从联赛中得到什么呢？
“得到了一个增强了实力的伟大团队。像赫尔南（克雷斯波）、伊布拉西莫维奇、维埃拉、格罗索……共24名球员。每当国际米兰需要时，就有义务为她战斗！但尤文图斯的降级也会造成竞争感迷失的可能。”

现在你在国家队和俱乐部的职业生涯颠倒过来了：国际米兰拿到了冠军，而却面临选择告别国家队的境遇……
“我从来没想过要选择告别离开国家队。在不久前一切都很正常，但突然……我不知道什么发生了变化，给我说的话到现在还不能理解，真相仍然不得而知。虽然他们给了我一个解释，直到今天我都不能接受。这是一系列的非常态处理，不仅仅是针对我个人。”

谁告诉过你更多的内幕吗？
“当看到同样没有去的其它球员时或许就已经明白了。”

落选不是因为能力，而是佩克尔曼不喜欢……他想要另一个别的类型球员？
“从已经发生的事看起来，是的。教练不会喜欢所有类型的球员，但罕见的是我一直在比赛，甚至在某些比赛里还是队长……结果最后却一无所获。”

你关注了世界杯吗？
“是的。第一场对科特迪瓦的时候，我在阿根廷；剩下的比赛都在撒丁岛和我家人共度假期。就算我自己不能参加，但我也是国家队的一个坚定支持者，因为那里有我很多的好友。如果我们能赢下德国的话，也许能够实现最后的目标……但正如你看到的那样，足球就是这样不可预测。”

你看到本应属于自己的位置上被布尔迪索、科洛尼奇、斯卡罗尼甚至库福雷轮流占据有什么感觉？
“如果我对他们作了评价，就是对他们的不尊重。与他们无关，所有的矛盾都只是和教练一人。但我不否认自己看比赛时会有‘我能让这一侧风平浪静’的想法。”

你觉得还有重新入选国家队的可能吗？自己感觉能否胜任？等到2010年南非世界杯你就快37岁了……
“实际上，除了在佩克尔曼的球队里，我从来都没停止过自己国家队的生活。我知道自己能保持竞技状态……有时我甚至会选择一些“野蛮”的训练方法，而从不去考虑还没到来的事。我想回到国家队，比如说，为什么不去准备参加明年在为委内瑞拉举行的美洲杯呢？”

但现在巴西莱时代开始了，而且你也没有入选对巴西的比赛。
“对我来说起码有了引起新教练关注的机会，因为最近和他沟通的结果确定了我对他们仍然有意义。他认可了我没有入选对巴西的比赛，但我是作为他第一名单里的人选定位的。只是他已经准备好了给新队员的很多电话……”

自从2005年底与英格兰的友谊赛后，你就没出现在国家队过。既不属于佩克尔曼时代也没面对过巴西……
“我不认为这能说明什么。比如说，因为某个人的原因我没有得到机会，而让很多人从而怀疑我的技术和身体状态。我听了也从没怨言，相反，那些被认可的身体技术好于我的人最后告诉了我：我的落选对于国家队在德国的表现是非常重要的。因为他们看到了顶替我的球员和团队化合后的表现……”

然后那些人希望你能去德国世界杯？
“倒不是这个意思，但他们说就算实在是为了国家队必须牺牲我，有个解释也是非常重要的……感谢上帝，还有他们还我公道。那些说他的比赛超过了百场但表现并不比别的球员好的人，可以闭上嘴了。”

你说不会考虑那些足球之外的事情，你指的究竟是什么？
“无可奉告。新的时代开始了，我希望机会面前人人平等。”

你认识巴西莱吗？
“我曾在西班牙和他见过一次。那是几年前，在玛丽亚餐厅。当时我们在那里打了场友谊赛，结果1：2输了，大家谈了会儿话。后来我就只知道他在阿根廷担任的教练工作了。”

你对格隆多纳有什么看法？
“一切都很好，我对他没什么意见。”

哈尔维·萨内蒂已经是国际米兰历史上出场最多的六位球员之一了。这些人是：朱塞佩·贝尔戈米（758场）、吉亚琴托·法切蒂（634场）、桑德罗·马佐拉（565）、朱塞佩·巴雷西、马里奥·科尔索（502场）和哈维尔·萨内蒂（495）场。其中意甲联赛353场、欧洲杯65场和47场意大利杯及意大利超级杯。

从1995年8月27日开始（第一场比赛1：0维琴察），萨内蒂已经在国际米兰度过了11个年头，现在他已经开始了第12年的征途。在球员动荡频繁的国际米兰，他的坚持是个异数。就好象分别效力了曼联17年的吉格斯和15年的斯科尔斯那样，他将被铭记在俱乐部的历史上。

The partisan Italian crowd were still in the midst of their pre-match anthem of "C'è solo l'Inter" (There's only one Inter) when Diego Forlán silenced them by handing the visitors a shock lead in the first attack of the game. "We were taken by surprise," Inter captain Javier Zanetti said. "We started very badly, making a huge positional mistake in defence and allowing them to take the lead. Then we showed great character with a terrific reaction."

'The drought is over'
That response saw Roberto Mancini's team level through Adriano six minutes later before substitute Obafemi Martins steered them to a narrow victory with a virtuoso second-half performance. Both strikers could have added more as the Serie A outfit took command but Adriano was content simply to end a barren personal spell. "I haven't been scoring lately and I was feeling a bit low but now the drought is over," said the Brazilian, who has scored 12 goals in 15 UEFA Champions League outings. "Now I want to score more."

'Difficult game'
Inter scored five on their last trip to eastern Spain, defeating Villarreal's local rivals Valencia CF 5-1 at the Mestalla in the group stage of last season's competition. That was only the Nerazzurri's third win in 14 games in Spain, however, and Zanetti is expecting a tough second-leg encounter. "We have to be prepared for a very difficult game," he said. "We have to impose ourselves and avoid becoming too preoccupied with defending our slight advantage."

Villarreal portents
They could prove wise words as the omens certainly favour UEFA Champions League debutants Villarreal. Manuel Pelligrini's team have not lost in five home matches in their maiden campaign, including qualifying, and possess an imperious record against Italian opposition in European competition. A 1-0 victory would also suffice against Inter, but the the Nerazzurri's Dejan Stanković is in determined mood, saying: "We have no excuse; we have to reach the semi-finals."

 ROME - Javier Zanetti went close to doubling Inter's lead against Roma at the Olimpico with a blistering shot from distance that smacked the post. "It was destiny that my goal has been delayed again," he told Inter Channel. "For a moment I thought I would be able to celebrate tonight's great victory with a goal. Unfortunately I hit the post. It's a pity, but it will be for next time."

Commenting on his team's performance against Roma the Inter captain, who is just two matches short of a milestone 500th appearance, said: "We played compact, we all helped each other and we succeeded in doing what the coach asked us to do. And we gave conceded very little to Roma. This was a team victory, three important points on a pitch where it's never easy to get points."

 APPIANO GENTILE - Inter captain Javier Zanetti answered questions from the press in today's pre-Inter v Bayern Munich news conference at Angelo Moratti Sports Centre:

Zanetti, the team is back in Champions League action after the defeat in Lisbon.
"It was a defeat that the team did not deserve. We didn't play well, but Sporting had one shot, scored and won. But we have showed that we are capable of reacting, and indeed we are doing well in the championship. The Champions League returns tomorrow and this is a very important competition for us, the club and the fans. We know the difficulties of the match against Bayern, who are a great team. We hope to win points and recover in the cup."

What happened in the last ten minutes against Chievo on Sunday?
"A team like ours cannot afford to relax like that, especially in the Italian championship where you can't trust anyone. Sunday was an example. It's not just the coach's fault, it's ours too. These things can't happen to a team with big ambitions."

If you play against Bayern Munich tomorrow it will be your 500th competitive appearance for Inter. How will it feel?
"It will feel great. If I think of all the games I have played with Inter I feel very proud. Above all, I thank the club and the fans who have given me their confidence and shown all their affection. I also thank the team-mates I have had down the years. To be part of the history of this club is very important for me."

Do you remember all 500 matches played for Inter?
"There is certainly one that stands out. Which one? The UEFA Cup final in Paris when we won and I also scored a goal. I can't forget that. Which one do I remember with the most disappointment? The match of the fifth of May (in 2002). I will never forget it, even if it counts as one of the 500 matches."

Do you prefer to play in defence or midfield?
"I prefer to be on the pitch, which always means a lot. I get on well in any position. What pleases me most is that Inter makes me feel important because they believe in me. Being useful to the team is very satisfying."

With what spirit will you be playing, considering everything that is emerging in these days?
"We're honestly not thinking about it. We know that it is our duty to do well on the pitch. If we win all our matches we know that what is said on the outside will remain there."

Are you calmer now you don't have to wait for Adriano's goals because Crespo is in great form?
"Yes, Hernan is in great form and he's showing it match after match. But we also await Adriano. We haven't forgotten about all his strength and how important he will be for us. And we also have to get back Cruz and Recoba."

 MILAN - "It was a very balanced game which unfortunately we lost after being reduced to ten men and after having had the chance to take the lead in numerical inferiority," said Javier Zanetti, who made his 500th appearance for Inter in the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.

"Now we have to stay calm and do well in our next three Champions League games. We can still get through the round. The first red card clearly penalised us. Bayern play very well and they caused problems for us. Now we will try to put things right and win all our remaining matches so we can qualify. We are an intelligent group and we will react to this difficulty.

"I am obviously very pleased to have reached a milestone 500 matches with Inter, but I was hoping to celebrate it with a victory."

 APPIANO GENTILE - A month after the death of Giacinto Facchetti, Atalanta and Inter - the two teams he represented in his career as a player and manager - will contest tomorrow evening's Sky Trophy friendly at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia in Bergamo (kick-off at 20:30). Before the second of today's two training sessions at Angelo Moratti Sports Centre, Inter captain Javier Zanetti gave this interview to SkyItalia:

Captain, a month has passed since the death of Facchetti. How much do you miss him?
"We really miss a person like Giacinto. We will always miss him, for his presence and his class."

How would Facchetti have dealt with a moment like this?
"He always found the right words at the right time. He was a calm person who knew how to manage these situations well. Even though only one part of everything they say corresponds to the truth."

Do you agree that Inter have struggled a bit lately because of the many absences?
"I think the break has come at the right moment. This way we can get the injured players back. Apart from a few episodes, I think Inter have done well in the championship. On the whole, the team has done well. We can clearly do better, but there are many matches to play and we have all the time we need and the desire to do well. Instead, it has been an uphill start in the Champions League, but we have every chance of turning the situation around. So it just depends on us."

How much has the media affected your performances?
"A lot of things are said, but we know the truth is every day we spend together on the pitch. We're just focused on our work, we leave everything that is said on the outside to the others."

What effect did it have on the team to see Moratti angry in last Friday's meeting?
"Moratti is always very close to the team. Like us, he wants Inter to do well. We are here to give our all, from now until the end of the season. Sometimes the results don't come for a number of reasons, but not because there's a lack of effort or desire to do well."

Was there the need for harsh words to give the team a shake, like Moratti said after the meeting?
"There weren't many strong words. He just expressed his opinion and this is normal because he is the owner of this club. We know what kind of person Moratti is."

What is your reply to those who say there is a crisis in the dressing room. Would you like to clear things up?
"It's not the first time. Besides, when on the outside they say there's a crisis, the first thing they always say is that there is a divided squad. I can assure you that this is absolutely not true."

From the national team's training camp Buffon said that Inter's Scudetto was not won on the pitch. What is your reply?
"I am proud to be the captain of a team which is the expression of an honest club, and I am proud of everyone who works for Inter. Right now it seems as if Inter should be ashamed of something, but it is the exact opposite. In all these years Inter have shown loyalty and honesty. I think it is absurd to bring up things that, knowing Moratti, are not correct. There's no embarrassment over wearing this Scudetto: we won the points on the pitch. It's not up to me to judge if it went differently for the others."

Does Zanetti feel any embarrassment over changing roles so often?
"Mancini can count on my complete availability. Luckily I can cover a number of roles, so I can help the team when needed. But I hope I don't have to do it any more: this would mean the squad is back to full strength, without any injuries or suspensions."

To conclude, Moratti said that Inter are at the centre of a media conspiracy. What do you think about this?
"We have to stay out of this. If we do well on the pitch all these things they say on the outside will remain there, on the outside."

Zanetti sees no Inter crisis

Javier Zanetti insists Inter are not in crisis and that the team is remaining united around Roberto Mancini.

“This side is not in crisis. I never believed those who said before the season kicked off that we’d win hands down, as no League in the world has ever been decided that way. There are too many variables in sport for such a claim.”

The pressure is on the Nerazzurri after two defeats in the Champions League and disappointing Serie A draws with Sampdoria and Cagliari, prompting new rumours of a rift within the squad.

“This club is like a big family and we’re all very united. None of us have the temerity to visit the President and tell him what to do, not even me in the role of captain. Mancini is one of us and there’s no division here. We keep seeing headlines claiming everyone is at each other’s throats or that players are constantly popping in and out of Massimo Moratti’s office, but it’s completely untrue.”

The Argentine right-back has been a key figure for the club over 12 years and has been revitalised by a move to midfield in recent outings.

“It is an emergency situation, as Esteban Cambiasso’s injury and Patrick Vieira’s ban forced Mancini to play me in the centre, but I am happy with this show of faith in my abilities. I’m there to help Inter and that’s what I want. I’m sure we’ll be able to win something this season.”

The other tension at San Siro is caused by Adriano, who hasn’t scored in 200 days – since the 2-1 Champions League win over Villarreal on March 29. In Serie A that record stretches back even farther to a 1-0 result against Sampdoria on March 11.

“He knows how important he is for this side and nobody here is questioning him, on the field or off,” assured Zanetti.

“Adriano really is a wonderful guy. He’s not scoring at the moment, but I remember when Hernan Crespo took a long time to break his duck at Milan and lost all his confidence. It happens to many strikers. Adri knows we’re all here to help and that this situation will pass.”

Meanwhile, he has welcomed summer signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the fold, albeit with some added difficulties.

“Ibra is great, he’s always happy, even if he can seem tough on the field. It’s tricky sometimes as teammates to play alongside him, as even we don’t know what he’s going to come out with next. He performs these incredible tricks and is capable of just about anything.”

Zanetti, how are you feeling on the eve of such a delicate match?
"Yes, it's the most delicate game of this start to the season. It's a very important match. It's an in-or-out match. We want a great victory, we will have to play a great game to win the three points."

Have you spoken in the dressing room about provocations and acts of nervousness that could lead to you playing matches with ten men?
"I think it's right to point this out. We have to stay calm. In today's football everything becomes harder when you are without one or two team-mates, so we must always try to keep eleven players on the pitch. Tomorrow it will be a true match that we want and absolutely have to win."

What do you think of period Adriano is going through?
"Adri is working with us to reach top condition. He hasn't scored for many matches and this can become an extra problem. We are helping him, we know how important he can be on and off the pitch. Like all my colleagues, he will make his contribution to help us win every match we play."

Is today's football becoming too violent?
"Us players must be calmer. It's true that football is a masculine game, but loyalty must prevail. We must put on a great show for the people who come and watch us, and stop there. No further, because negative things can arise that end up damaging the sport."

Inter doing so well in the championship, but still haven't won in the Champions League? Why? You seem like two different teams.
"I don't think we seem like two different teams at all. In the Champions League we have lost two matches we shouldn't have lost. Luckily we still have a chance of qualifying. We have to win tomorrow and find the consistency we have in the championship."

 MILAN - "The team showed it was up to the task and won three very important points," said Inter captain Javier Zanetti after the 4-3 derby victory against AC Milan. "We all suffered until the end after Marco's sending-off. In the end we won a great game; we wanted to do this at all costs. You could see a true team; we gritted our teeth to get a result we all wanted: us, the club and the fans who were crazy for this victory. Now we will take it one step at a time. We are strong and we will be united until the end."

MOSCOW - Javier Zanetti answered questions from the press at the Spartak Moscow v Inter news conference before joining his team-mates to try out the synthetic pitch at the Luzhniki Stadium. "We have just come from a very hard match, but one we played well and deserved to win," said the Inter captain, referring to Saturday's victory over AC Milan. "To win the derby and win it in that way means a great deal to us, but it's in the past and now we just have to focus on Spartak. What happened at the end of the game are things that can happen. A bit of tension is normal after such a hard-fought and important match, after a derby won in that way."

Tuesday's Champions League Group B clash is Il Capitano's fourth with the Nerazzurri in Moscow. "But we will be facing a completely different team from the other ones, and there have been a lot of changes for us in these years as well, so it's impossible to make a comparison," said Zanetti. "Spartak will try and take the game to us and impose their tempo. They're playing at home and will want to get off to a good start. We will have to be very careful and focused, particularly in defence."

Zanetti believes a repeat of the Matchday 3 result in Moscow tomorrow is vital to the Nerazzurri's hopes of a place in the last sixteen: "We would be very pleased with a win here in Moscow; it would be very important for our chances of qualifying. We started with two defeats which in many ways were undeserved, now we are back in the race and we have to continue to win.

"Playing on a synthetic pitch could undoubtedly be a problem for us, but let's hope it could turn out to be advantageous as it could favour technique. Now we will try our boots and find the most suitable ones. We could use those without studs but we will see; it depends on the weather conditions."

 MILAN - Javier Zanetti's opening goal against Ascoli was his first for the Nerazzurri since Empoli 3-4 Inter on 6 November 2002. Speaking on Inter Channel after the 2-0 victory, Zanetti said: "I had been waiting four years to score. I really missed scoring, I try in every match and I didn't manage to, either because of bad luck or the ability of our opponents. I'm very pleased today because the goal came at a difficult moment when we weren't managing to score.

"In the second half of the game against Ascoli we showed we deserved to win. I'm pleased about my goal, but it isn't important who scores. What counts is winning and continuing like this. Now we will enjoy this victory but we will continue to work to do well because we know this is the only way we can achieve success."

 MILAN - "Due credit to Reggina who played a great game and made us suffer, but these victories are worth double; it's important to win against opponents who make you suffer," said SkyItalia's man of the match Javier Zanetti after the final whistle at the Giuseppe Meazza.

"They played really well and caused problems for us in the first half," continued the Inter captain. "We did well to contain them and move forward on the break.

"Inter have broken clear? No, the championship is still long. Adriano? The most important thing is his return; he will have time to refind his scoring touch."

The Nerazzurri are next in action on Wednesday with Sporting Lisbon at the Meazza in Champions League Matchday 5. "It is a vital game," admitted Zanetti. "We don't have much time to prepare for it but we will rise to the occasion in this competition."

"I have always felt at home here at Inter and this is why I have never thought of leaving Javier Zanetti Special meaning."

When the 22-year-old Javier Zanetti joined FC Internazionale Milano in 1995 from CA Banfield not many people could have predicted just what the Argentinian right-back would come to mean to the famous Italian club. Many great footballers have worn the Nerazzurri shirt in the 12 seasons since but after thousands of runs on the right flank and more than 500 games, Zanetti is still 'la bandiera' - the symbol - of the Inter side. The club captain is on the verge of reaching another prestigious landmark when Inter take on Sporting Clube de Portugal on Wednesday, as he currently stands on 99 European appearances for the Milan side.

"Inter means a lot to me," Zanetti, now 33, told uefa.com. "It was the first team to open the doors of European football. I was very young when I came here and I think not many teams could have had so much faith and patience with a boy in his early 20s from the very first day like Inter did with me. I will always be grateful for that. For some reason I have always felt at home here at Inter and this is why I have never thought of leaving.

'Very proud'
Zanetti's longevity at Inter is even more remarkable given the club's reputation in the transfer market. Seeing so many players come and go down the years can only have added to a sense of achievement. "Looking back at the years I have spent at Inter I feel very proud," Zanetti continued. "Playing for so long for a club with such a big tradition, so prestigious and known all over the world is a good reason for being proud, I think." His greatest memory of all? "The UEFA Cup final in 1998 in Paris. We won the trophy and I also scored a great goal. I will never forget that night."

Goal wait ends
Goals are not Zanetti's speciality, so when he does score it is something to remember. When he opened the scoring in the 2-0 defeat of Ascoli Calcio 1898 earlier this month, it was his first goal in four years. "I had been waiting for long time for a goal and finally I scored in a game that was not very easy for us as we were struggling to break the deadlock," he said. "I was very happy because I have gone close to scoring so many times in recent years."

Fine form
A bit like Inter and the Scudetto in Zanetti's spell, a wait that ended with Juventus's disqualification last summer. Things are going well for the Nerazzurri. They are level on points with US Città di Palermo at the top of Serie A and a victory against Sporting at the Giuseppe Meazza would mean qualification for the UEFA Champions League knockout stage despite a poor start in the competition with two defeats in the first two Group B games. The Nerazzurri have won their last six games in all competitions, a record under Roberto Mancini.

All-round strength
"It's a great time for us and we are obviously very happy but we also know that we have to continue like this for a long time because we haven't achieved anything yet," Zanetti explained. "We are a very good side, with several different options in every positions and extremely strong in every sector of the pitch. I think this is the main strength of our team this season even if I cannot say if this is the best Inter side I have played for, because we have had other strong teams in the past."

Midfield role
Mancini has often used Zanetti further forward this season and he is enjoying the change. "I played in midfield several times in the past, especially with the Argentinian national team, and I knew I could cover that role," Zanetti said. "If the coach needs me in midfield, I don't have any problem playing there." Maintaining such a high level of performance for a decade makes his versatility even more impressive. "I always try to give my best and be useful to the team. And I take training very seriously every day. For me, however, it's a big advantage to play at a club like Inter. I have always felt the trust of everyone here and under those circumstances everything becomes much easier."

Facchetti dedication
Giacinto Facchetti played a major part in eliciting such strong loyalty to the club and the former captain and president has been sorely missed since he passed away in September. Inter have not won the European Champion Clubs' Cup since Facchetti lifted the trophy in 1965. Should they succeed this season there is no doubt who the triumph would be dedicated to. "Winning trophies this year would be special especially to honour the memory of Giacinto and for his family," Zanetti said. "The whole club deserve to win trophies because everyone has been waiting for a long time, working always with great professionalism and never using excuses when we failed to achieve the results we wanted to achieve." Zanetti's performances ensure he rarely needs excuses.

Zanetti, what mistakes must you not make compared to the first game in Lisbon?
"This is an important week for us and it started well against Reggina on Sunday. We won a very difficult game because the Calabrians caused problems for us. We know the importance of the Sporting match; it won't be an easy game for either team because qualification is at stake. We practically didn't play in the first game; we will have to be very focused tomorrow."

You are set to play your 100th European game for Inter. Are you proud of this record?
"It's a tremendous target, but what interests us most tomorrow is an Inter win and qualification to the last sixteen after a difficult and complicated start in the Champions League."

Massimo Moratti said yesterday that tomorrow evening's match against Sporting Lisbon is more important than Sunday's against Palermo. Do you agree?
"Yes, because the Palermo game comes after. We just have to think about tomorrow's match. We know how important it is, we're playing for qualification to the last sixteen after a bad start. We want to qualify by getting three points against Sporting Lisbon, but we know it won't be easy."

What is your reply to those who say Inter are winning but aren't playing spectacular football?
"I won't reply. Inter are fine like this, the most important thing is that we continue on the same road. We're first in the championship, we won our round of sixteen first leg in the Coppa Italia, and tomorrow in the Champions League we can qualify for the second phase of the competition. Things are going well for us now, but the conclusions will clearly be made at the end."

Do you feel any fear at facing a game like the one against Sporting Lisbon?
"We don't feel fear. We have the right tension for a decisive and fundamental game. We have self-confidence and we know we can win if we play like we can. We must respect our opponents, but we're hoping it will be a great evening for us."

What are you expecting from Sporting tomorrow evening?
"We played badly in Lisbon, without expressing our full potential. They're a team who keep a lot of ball possession. We will have to try and control the game by trying to get an opening goal."

 ALERMO - "We won a game in which it was very important for us to do well," remarked Javier Zanetti after Inter's 2-1 win against Palermo at the Barbera. "We knew it would be hard to win tonight, but the team showed personality and courage and we won deservedly because of this. Is this the strongest Inter ever? It's a team with more alternatives, we have two players per role."

Asked about his versatility on the pitch, Zanetti replied: "I get on well in a wide midfield position and Mancini knows this. It doesn't matter in which position I play, the fundamental thing is to make myself useful to the team. We have been doing well in the championship and Champions League for two months; we must continue on this path if we want to continue to do well.

" Maicon and Grosso? They're doing very well. They like pushing forward a lot and this helps them get into crossing positions.

"We really want to win this championship and also do very well in the Champions League and Tim Cup. The club has made great efforts to give the coach a great team, and we have to do everything to reach our goals."

 MILAN - Javier Zanetti collected his 100th European appearance for Inter in Wednesday's Champions League victory over Sporting Lisbon. "I'm very happy with the century of appearances, which is a great milestone, and also with tonight's victory that qualifies us for the Champions League last sixteen," he told Inter Channel after the game.

"Lately the team has shown it is very strong and very mature. Sporting never managed to be really dangerous today and this gives merit to the team's performance. I'm pleased about Cambiasso's return and very sorry for Dacourt's injury. Let's hope it's nothing serious, and that he will soon be back with us."

What are your expectations from tomorrow's match?
"We'll be playing against a great team. We are both through but first place in the group is at stake and it is very important for us."

How important is first place in the group?
"One opponent is worth another when you get to the round of sixteen. We will try and win every time we play, and we must always play like a great team. And all the teams through will be difficult to face."

How important is it to play a match without the pressure of the result?
"It is certainly a match with less pressure and we will be able to play with more calm and serenity. But the spirit with which we will face the match doesn't change because we want to win."

What do you think of the result of the first leg against Bayern Munich?
"Bayern are a great team and they have been for years, but we want to play our game to forget the first leg where they perhaps didn't deserve the victory. Ibrahimovic's dismissal certainly changed the game. It will be a different match tomorrow."

Has the team changed since the first leg?
"We have faced and overcome a few difficulties and we have improved thanks to the victories that have given us self-confidence. It will be a nice match tomorrow."

 MUNICH - Javier Zanetti spoke on SkyItalia after Inter's 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich in Matchday 6 of the Champions League. "Inter still unbeaten? The positive results give us more and more confidence," said the Inter captain.

"Who do we want to avoid in the Champions League round of sixteen? Chelsea and Barcelona are two difficult sides to face. They both have good teams and Barcelona in particular have players capable of making the difference from the halfway line up. But one team is worth another because they all deserve to be through to the last sixteen."

Zanetti warned: "We mustn't make the mistake we made with Villarreal last season. It seemed like an easy round but they knocked us out. We don't trust anyone; we can't give anything away to anyone and we mustn't underestimate any team.

"How am I getting on in midfield? I'm doing well and I'm feeling good. The most important thing is the faith the coach and my team-mates have in me."
