He said: "We knew it was going to be a difficult game, but we could have won it. The team did well and the 2-2 draw is hard on us. In any case, we mustn't give up. MILAN - Inter were back to winning ways in Ancona on Sunday afternoon. Captain Javier Zanetti underlined the importance of the 2-0 victory in an interview with Inter Channel.

"It was about time," he said. "We've returned to winning and it was very important for us. Ancona showed they aren't a humble side, and Roma didn't get more than a point against them. Besides, there are no easy matches in the Italian championship."

The victory in Italy's Le Marche region puts the Nerazzurri back on track in the Serie A , and fourth place remains a realistic objective. Zanetti confirmed: "It's fundamental for us. We took a step forward yesterday, but there's still a long way to go."

With Ancona out of the way, it's time for the Uefa Cup . Zanetti: "The victory at Ancona allows us to prepare for the match with more serenity. It will be another very important match against Benfica."

MARSEILLE - Javier Zanetti analysed the Nerazzurri's 1-0 defeat away to Marseille in a post-match interview with Inter Channel.

"They waited for us in defence and didn't leave us any spaces. It was a very difficult match, I think Inter contained well but unfortunately this isn't enough," said the Inter captain.

"We should have tried to go through on goal more, but we were stunned by that goal we should have avoided. Also, we tried playing long balls forward, but this isn't our type of game."

The Nerazzurri survived a few scares at the Vélodrome and next week's return match is wide open. Zanetti added: "It's never easy at this level and it won't be at the San Siro either. Now we'll start preparing for the match against Perugia then we have the return leg of this match which will be fundamental."

Marseille will be without star player Drogba for the Uefa Cup quarter-final return match, and Zanetti knows its an advantage for the Nerazzurri. "He's their best player, he's an excellent striker who's capable of playing up front on his own. But we'll have to show we're capable of going on in this competition."

"We had the scoring chances, while they had one shot on goal and scored. We gave everything, their goal took our legs away. "There are four matches to go until the end, we know we have to take to the pitch with the same desire and determination we showed yesterday. We're ready for the final sprint."

Speaking to Inter Channel about the performance against the Rossoblu, Zanetti added: "It was a good game. We played the ball on the ground thanks to the excellent movements of our strikers. We let in two goals because of a moment's distraction in defence, we must improve our concentration and keep it high for the whole ninety minutes."

"No one has an advantage, it will be a fight until the end," admitted Javier Zanetti to Inter Channel. "All three teams involved in the race for fourth place have three difficult and important matches to play."

"It will be very difficult because they need points to stay up," said the Inter captain about next Sunday's match in Tuscany. "We must go to Empoli without making any calculations because if we do we risk ruining everything."

ARGENTINA SQUAD TO CONVENE TODAY

BUENOS AIRES - Nerazzurri Javier Zanetti and Cristian Kily Gonzalez will join up with the Argentina squad today to prepare for the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Brazil (on 2 June) and Paraguay (on 6 June).

Just eight players will turn up at the Argentina training camp, as numerous players still have club matches to play in various European and Central American competitions. By the weekend the squad will be almost at full strength, with the Paris Saint Germain (Coupe de France final) and Cruz Azul (Mexican Cup) players to arrive later.

The Argentines will start off training with some aerobic work to maintain physical condition, followed by a series of individual technique exercises.

MILAN - Everything is set for Wednesday's Germany 2006 qualifying match between South American giants and fierce rivals Argentina and Brazil. Argentina are currently top of the table with 11 points, followed by Paraguay (10), Brazil (9) and Venezuela (9).

With Ayala out through suspension, Javier Zanetti will captain Argentina against Adriano's national team.

Bielsa is expected to use a 3-3-1-3 formation for the clash in Belo Horizonte. In front of goalkeeper Cavallero, the Argentina coach will field a three-man defence with Samuel in the middle, Quiroga on the right and Heinze on the left. Javier Zanetti will take up a right midfield position, with Mascherano in the middle, Sorin on the left and Aimar just behind the strikers. In the three-man attack, Crespo will be flanked by Kily Gonzalez on the left and either Delgado or Rosales on the right.

MILAN - Ronaldo won and converted three penalties to give Brazil a 3-1 victory over Argentina in Wednesday's World Cup Qualifying Tournament match in Belo Horizonte.

Nerazzurri Javier Zanetti and Cristian Kily Gonzalez played the entire match, while Adriano remained on the Brazil bench.

J.ZANETTI WINS 80TH ARGENTINA CAP

MILAN - Javier Zanetti made his 80th appearance for Argentina in last night's World Cup qualifier against Brazil. The Inter captain is sixth in the table of most-capped Argentines, behind Diego Simeone (106), Oscar Ruggeri (97), Diego Maradona (91), Ariel Ortega (86) and Roberto Ayala (83).

Zanetti has been a permanent fixture in the national team for almost a decade. He made his international debut in Chile 0-3 Argentina on 16 November 1994, and under former head coach Passarella made 37 appearances and scored four goals. Under current boss Bielsa, Zanetti has captained Argentina four times in 43 appearances.

COPA AMERICA: 3 NERAZZURRI CALLED UP

MILAN - Argentines Javier Zanetti and Cristian Kily Gonzalez and Brazilian Adriano have been called up to their national teams for the 41st edition of the Copa America, to take place in Peru from 6-25 July.

The date for the Brazil retreat has yet to be officially communicated, while Argentina have two friendly internationals lined up before the tournament gets underway. Zanetti & co take on Colombia in Miami on 27 June then Peru in New York on 30 June before their opening Copa America match against Ecuador in Chiclayo on 7 July. Brazil's opening match of the tournament is against Chile in Arequipa on 8 July.

Uruguay coach Fossati has not called up Alvaro Recoba to his Copa America squad
