Caniggia set to join Qatar SC

Qatar - ARGENTINE Claudio Caniggia is in Qatar finalising a deal to join Qatar Sports Club, according to the Qatar Olympic Committee website.

Pictured arriving at the airport and later holding the Sporting Club team colours, the player who, at last year's World Cup, became the first to be red-carded without actually playing when he was dismissed for dissent while sitting on the substitutes bench, looks set to become the latest foreign player to grace the Qatar league.

If he signs, he will face Argentine Gabriel Batistuta, Germans Steffan Effenberg and Mario Basler, and Frenchman Frank Leboeuf, all of whom have signed for rival Qatar clubs.

Speaking about his likely stint in Doha, Caniggia said he was impressed by the beauty of the country. "I am very happy to be here and this is my first time," said Caniggia. "I hope the negotiations will be fruitful."

The 36-year-old forward, who played in the 1990 and 1994 World Cups, was released by Glasgow Rangers, the Scottish champions, at the end of last season. He has enjoyed spells in Italy with Atalanta and Roma, and in Portugal with Benfica.

"I have done good in Italy and other leagues and hope to do full justice in Doha," added the player.

Meanwhile, former Atalanta, Roma and Glasgow Rangers striker Claudio Caniggia, who has signed a one-year deal with Qatar SC, is the latest player to ply his trade in the gas-rich state.

Caniggia, who played in three FIFA World Cups, is determined to help Qatar SC hold onto the title they won last season, their first league triumph in 26 years.

"I came to Qatar to please the Qatari football fans and to present them with good football without any intention to seek money or have fun," said Caniggia at a press conference.

The Argentine joins German midfielder Stefan Effenberg and Argentine striker Gabriel Batistuta (Al Arabi), former Real Madrid skipper Fernando Hierro and German defender Mario Basler (Al Rayan), former Barcelona Spanish midfielder Josep Guardiola (Al Ahli) and former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf (Al-Sadd), all of whom will grace the 2003/4 Qatar league.

"Caniggia will be a big benefit for the club and he will form a powerful duo with Angolan striker Fabrice Acua," said Faisal Kawari, the club's football manager.

卡尼吉亚参加了去年的世界杯，但是因为领受红牌而实际上没能参赛。他是在替补席上领到这张红牌的。
看起来，他是今年最后一个来到卡塔尔的外籍球员了。这些外籍球员的加盟，为该联赛增色不少。

如果签约的话，他将与同来自阿根廷的巴蒂，德国的埃芬博格、巴斯勒以及法国的勒伯夫成为对手。

谈到他对多哈的第一感觉时，卡尼表示，他被这座城市的美丽所吸引：“这是我第一次来到这个地方，很高兴可以在这里，，”他说，“我期待谈判可以取得成功。”

这位36岁的前锋，曾经参加了1990和1994两次世界杯的比赛。上个赛季结束后，和效力的苏格兰联赛冠军流浪者队解约。

卡尼94年之后在博卡和老马接吻，导致他老婆精神失常裸奔，后来终于离婚了。偶记得老早一期足球俱乐部上有他俩的合照，他老婆看起来挺漂亮，可是后来在别的地方看见他老婆一张马脸，偶自己都晕了
