08/22/2003. Inter chairman Massimo Moratti has officially confirmed that the Nerazzurri have reached an agreement with Chelsea for the transfer of Argentinean striker Hernan Crespo.
"We have six strikers, perhaps we need to add something where we need most, that's to say in defence" Moratti said. "Cuper has nothing to do with this choice: Crespo wanted to play, and only Vieri can be considered as a regular here".
Inter's sporting director Marco Branca ealier denied that a deal had been struck with the Premiership's lavish spenders, but it is now understood that an offer worth 30million euros has been accepted.
Subject to the completion of 'minor details' Crespo will join fellow Argentine international and former Lazio team-mate Juan Sebastian Veron at Stamford Bridge as Roman Abramovich's revolution of the West London club continues.
The striker becomes the eighth big name signing since the Russian took over at the club, joining the likes of Adrian Mutu and Damien Duff af the club, while it takes his summer spending above the £90m mark.
Titolari fissi? Solo Vieri lo è".
Crespo move on hold (BBC)
Inter Milan have insisted no agreement has been reached with Chelsea over the transfer of Argentina striker Hernan Crespo to Stamford Bridge.
Inter's sporting director Marco Branca and technical director Gabriele Oriali have been in London negotiating with the Premiership side, but were due to return to Milan on Friday with the transfer unlikely to be resolved until next week.
"We will have to wait a couple of days to see if it's either everything, or nothing," said Branca.
Earlier on Friday Inter's general director Massimo Moretti claimed the deal would be completed by Friday.
But Branca contradicted Moretti: "There is absolutely no agreement with Chelsea over the transfer of Hernan Crespo."
The Italian giants rebuffed the Blues' approach for Christian Vieri earlier this summer, but have said they are willing to listen to offers for Crespo.
Certain (Inter) directors need to stay far away from me because if I lost it for five minutes I'd have them all nailed to a wall.

And Chelsea are reported to have increased their original £13m bid to £18m.
A futher £2m could be payable based on Crespo's success at Stamford Bridge.
The South American has only been at the San Siro for one season following spells at Parma and Lazio, and scored nine goals in the Champions League as Inter reached the semi-finals.
Crespo's agent Fernando Hidalgo said he was still waiting to hear from Chelsea over their approach.
Inter reject Crespo link
News of Crespo's possible departure provoked a furious response from his Inter striker partner Christian Vieri, who accused the club of lacking ambition.
"What am I doing here, staying at Inter to finish another time in second or third or fourth place?" Vieri was quoted as saying in the Gazzetta dello Sport
"What are we doing? Instead of reinforcing, we are weakening.
"Inter sold Ronaldo and in his place bought Crespo and now they are selling him. It is better to sell me, really, once and for all.
"Certain (Inter) directors need to stay far away from me because if I lost it for five minutes I'd have them all nailed to a wall."
Crespo refused to comment on his future after Argentina's win over Uruguay on Wednesday.
He accepted a wage cut earlier this summer and is contracted to Inter until summer 2006.
Crespo joined Inter last summer following two successful seasons at Lazio.
In the 2000-01 season he finished top scorer in Serie A with 24 goals for Lazio, who he joined from Parma for what was then a world record fee.
Inter sell Crespo to Chelsea Friday 22 August, 2003

Inter President Massimo Moratti has confirmed that they have agreed to sell Hernan Crespo to Chelsea.
The San Siro chief held talks with director general Massimo Moretti and Rinaldo Ghelfi this afternoon before breaking the news.
"Crespo has decided to leave as a result of his entourage," claimed Moratti. "They were looking for a new solution for him."
Few details have been released as of yet but it is understood that a £16.5m fee has been agreed for the Argentine international.
