| Simeone on the Champions Leagues, 'Until the league is over, we’ll keep believing'
| • The coach does not believe that the final of the UEFA Europa League will distract his players
|
For Diego Simeone is only thinking about the match that his team will play against Real on Wednesday at 18 pm at the Vicente Calderon. The Argentine coach is not looking beyond to the final of the UEFA Europa League that is getting closer. "We’re thinking game by game and going game by game," he summarised.
Simeone believes that the objective of reaching the third or fourth place is still possible and will fight while there is a mathematical chance. In the next two meetings, the red and whites have the support of the Calderon. "The players are flesh and blood, they need recovery time and sometimes do not get it. Sometimes they will be at the best, others the worst, but they are always competitive, always. Hopefully tomorrow will see a packed house. The truth is that the players deserve it. We need that positive energy coming down to stay strong and give the rest in what is left, which is very little. We are four or five days from the big moments in the league campaign and to still be involved is is what everyone wants. When we arrived back in December no one imagined this situation. You always wanted, but it was not real. Today it is real and we have our chance. I repeat, until the referee blows the final whistle and we will complete until the last game at Villarreal," he said.
The Argentine coach does not believe that the meeting in Bucharest will distract his team in the league. "The continuity and effort the players are making is huge. They eat, sleep, think about the game, we get on the bus and then we’re focused on the next game. We must continue in the same way" he said.
For Simeone, against Betis the team had one of their better performances away from the Calderón. Demonstrated by coming from 2-1 behind with three minutes left to play is commendable. "The Betis game the other day was probably one of the best we played away from home. What makes me proud of the team is they still went to get something after going behind.” he said.
Atletico are facing tomorrow's game with the question of who will play on the right side. Simeone discarded Perea and is torn between the option or changing the formation to play with three men at the back. "It’s a shame that the injury that Silvio picked up has not given us the opportunity to have him. Luis will probably recover in a couple of days but tomorrow he’ll not be ready." he summarised.
Simeone answered in a tone of humor the question of National Radio about the possibility of Germain Burgos, the assistant coach, attending press conferences in the coming days, given the multitude of media commitments that will happen this week. "I had not thought about that, but it is a good alternative. He is much nicer than me so ... It’d not a bad idea, it may be good because I always say the same thing, I’m boring," said the Atletico coach.
