阿根廷107比72胜委内瑞拉,可惜中国队79:85输给了德国
Indianapolis, Aug. 29 - Argentina proved that their offensive prowess was not just words in the media guide. Argentina had no problem in defeating Venezuela 107-72 in a Class D preliminary round of the 2002 World Basketball Championship Thursday evening at Conseco Fieldhouse.
“When you ain’t got no animals, you ain’t got not zoo. And I think Argentina’s got a pretty good zoo,” Venezuela head coach Jim Calvin surmised. “(Argentina) is a team that could medal in this world championship. They’ve got great size. They’ve got great shooters. And they play pretty well together.”
Argentina shot 55 percent from the field in the first quarter to jump out to a 27-16 first quarter lead. That advantage grew to 14 by halftime, 49-35.
Making that extra pass continued to lead to easy baskets for Argentina in the third quarter. Argentina’s lead grew to 19 points three minutes into the third quarter, then 24 three minutes later, then 37, and as much as 43 when Leonardo Gutierrez sank a three-pointer with 3:43 to play.
Emanuel Ginobili led Argentina with 19 points, Andres Noccioni dumped in 16, and Luis Scola scored 14. Point guard Juan Ignacio "epe" Sanchez tallied 9 points, dished out 9 assists and controlled the game’s tempo.
Victor Diaz and Richard Lugo led Venezuela with 12 points each, and Hector Romero with 10.
For the contest, Argentina shot 52.5 percent from the field to Venezuela’s 33.9 percent. Venezuela had 22 turnovers compared to Argentina’s 11.
“There was a wide difference in the score from the beginning, but we had problems (with Venezuela) throughout the game and it forced us to change players,” Argentina’s Ruben Magnano said.
Argentina will return to the hardwood Friday to face China, a 88-76 loser to Germany Thursday, at Conseco Fieldhouse. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT. Venezuela will face New Zealand, which came from behind to defeat Russia Thursday 90-81, at the RCA Dome at 4:30 p.m. CT.
