Title contenders out of German GP
First corner incident at Hockenheim [03/08/03 - 14:53]
Raikkonen out of German GP
orld Championship contenders Kimi Raikkonen, Ralf Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello crashed out of this afternoon抯 German Grand Prix following a first corner incident.
Raikkonen made an impressive start, but was squeezed onto the grass when Ralf Schumacher defended his line from Rubens Barrichello. The affect of this meant that Raikkonen clashed with Barrichello and, in turn, hit the left hand side of Schumacher抯 Williams.
Raikkonen impacted the tyre barriers heavily at the first corner, and is currently being seen by a doctor in the Medical Centre. Ralf Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello pitted to retirement, leaving Juan Pablo Montoya as the race leader.
Justin Wilson, Ralph Firman and Heinz-Harald Frentzen were also victims of the wreckage, which deployed the safety car for three laps.
"The trouble was triggered by Rubens' poor start," Dennis told ITV reporters. "I don't think Ralf squeezed him deliberately but it just started the sequence."
Schumacher, however, claims he was simply defending his position.
"It's very disappointing but incidents do happen when there are so many people around. I don't think I moved too far to the left, I was just trying to defend my position."
