The promising youth of South America will gather at the "Youth of America" Peru 2011
Jan 13 2011
South American will again dress for a party in the South American Under-20 Youth of America 2011 which will take place in Peru. Figures from the continent’s youth will dazzle you with their talent and guide their teams not only to the title, but to get tickets for the World Cup in Colombia and for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The tournament will be hosted by the cities of Arequipa (UNSA Stadium, 60,000 spectators), Moquegua ( November 25, 21,000 spectators) and Tacna (Jorge Basadre Stadium, 25,000 spectators) and 35 games will be played from Jan. 16 to Feb. 12 .
The dispute system consists of two groups of five teams each, of which three will qualify for the Final Round. In the final round, the first four teams will get their World Cup tickets. If Colombia, which has already qualified for hosting the next FIFA World Cup, finished in the qualifying zone, then the team that is located on the fifth place will be the one who gets the passport. In turn, the first two teams will get their seat for the 2012 London Olympics.
GROUP A
Argentina
After the disappointment of not qualifying for the World Cup of Egypt 2009, the Argentine national team-champion of the category with 6 titles – will search the Inca lands to make it clear that it is one of the contenders for the continental rod after eight years without being the best in America.
In a squad in which most players have experience in first division, we highlight the presence of three players: Leonel Galeano, Rogelio Funes Mori and Sergio Araujo. The first was one of the key pieces in the crowning of Independiente in the last Copa Nissan Sudamericana. Mori Funes is undoubtedly one of the most resonant names to tread Peruvian soil since the forward already has a couple of seasons with River Plate. For his part, Araujo was one of the figures in the last South American Under-17 Championship in Chile and his skills gained him a place among the figures of Boca Juniors.
Responsible for guiding these young people will be Walter Perazzo, former assistant to Sergio Batista on the fateful Venezuela 2009 South American: "We have short-term objectives. The first is to beat Uruguay in the opening match, then qualify to the next round, then access to the World Cup and then seek passage to London. " And when it comes to define his team he added: "The idea is to have a balanced midfield and to have control of the ball. The proposal is a good treatment of that ball and for that the forwards will join the game."
Chile
Without doubt, the third place in the World Cup of Canada 2007, was the greatest achievement in the history of Chilean football at the U-20 level. That team lifted the bar very high and from that moment, every Chilean team that goes to a South American has the goal of being the best player in the continental competition.
No names of high relevance and with a staff composed of players from the local environment, the Rojita has a central defender born in Trovolhue, Pedro Salgado, who is not only a regular in Universidad Catoloca, but has also worn Chile’s jersey. We must also mention the midfielder of Union Temuco, Alejandro Marquez and Colo Colo striker Mirko Opazo.
For his part, coach César Vaccia thinks his team must do things very well, because Group A is more even and has tough opponents: "I'm not sure that we will be champions, but if I'm here is because they ( the ANFP) trusts me. Everybody can say, the only way to see the capabilities is at the time of the competition, I think it's always better to go and look for targets, before generating expectations. " And,” he said: "The most important thing is that the boys and I have our own expectations. We are making a long trip, have been working a long time, we played a series of matches, we've trained, we are always with the idea of qualifying ".
Peru
The host has a unique opportunity to qualify for the first time to a World category. For that it should draw on the breath of its people and its talented players. Supported by the technical management of Uruguayan Gustavo Ferrin, the Inca team has playmaker Christian Cueva (Universidad San Martín de Porres), and forwards Joazhiño Arro (Siena, ITA) and Andre Carrillo (Alianza Lima).
Arro himself has many expectations about what his team can do at the event: "This team has spent a year training with the Sudamericanao in mind and it is now time to prove it. We also have one of the most dangerous strikers in the tournament with André Carrillo . I think qualifying to the World Cup is very possible. "
The group’s head, Gustavo Ferrin, is not limited to thinking about the goals of his team: "We work to meet deadlines and have made a good preparation. We are satisfied because they have met the requirements. Growth has been high, from the point of view that the national team began to work late. But it has proved it can equate to other countries. That gives me great satisfaction. "
Uruguay
Always the great animator in the South Americans –it was third in Venezuela 2009, the 'Celeste' wants to lift the trophy after 30 years. However, during this period, the Uruguayan group has had great teams in the category that took them to the first global plain (finalist in Malaysia in 1997).
Gone are Lodeiro, Coates and company, to give way to Leandro Cabrera (who played the 2009 World Cup with Recreativo Huelva, ESP), Diego Polenta (Genoa, ITA) and Sebastian Gallegos (Atletico Madrid, ESP .) The first two are responsible for giving strength to a team which in prior friendly matches received very few goals, while Gallegos provides scoring capacity. The only casualty suffered by coach Juan Verzeri was that of striker Gonzalo Barreto, who plays for Lazio of Italy, and was not released by his club.
Facing the tournament, Verzeri looks very critically at the process in relation to the other contenders: "In Uruguay, we attach great importance to it, but Venezuela is working very well at the youth level and has had a comprehensive process preparing for a year and a half for this South American. " He added: "Argentina is a power at the youth level. All teams have done important work. We've studied and followed their development."
Venezuela
The year 2009 was the take off for the Vinotinto by qualifying for the first time to a World Cup. But in Venezuela, they don’t want that to be an exception, but to become a constant in all the South American championships. For that, coach Mark Mathias continued the work begun by Cesar Farias in charge of youth and his team arrives in Peru with one and a half years of preparation.
Despite the glaring absence of Josmar Zambrano (Tenerife / ESP) and Franco Signorelli (Empoli / ITA)-who were not released for the team, "and the injury of Fernando Aristeguieta (Caracas) Venezuela, the material selected is tops. A very homogenous group, with the presence of Alexander Gonzalez and Yohandry Orozco (Zulia FC). The first is one of the figures of Caracas FC for his deployment on the right side of the midfield, while Orozco is not only the hook and captain of the Vinotinto, but is also the only one who was in the World Cup squad of 2009.
Coach Mark Mathias was the assistant coach to Cesar Farias in that memorable feat. "Historical similarities with that team? "Both groups were very talented. This one perhaps is more professional. The boys grew up.This second group grew in another environment. They never settled into the circumstances. " And without hesitation he adds: "As a result, not qualifying would be a failure. The goal is clear: to go to the World Cup."
GROUP B
Brazil
The current South American champion will have the difficult task of staying on top of the continent. The national team with more titles in the 24 editions of the competition, lifted the cup ten times, and is the leading candidate to climb to the top of the podium. For it they will have on their roster the best that is available and mostly has the South American figure: the skilful forward Neymar, the 'jewel' of Santos and Brazil's biggest hope today, who even defended the national team in recent friendlies by the hand of helmsman's Mano Menezes.
However, the skilled forward will not have a luxury ally, Philippe Coutinho, the Inter Milan striker was disaffected, due to a hamstring injury that would take about 15 days to heel before he can return to training, according to Inter of Milan doctors.
The coach will be Ney Franco, who has very clear what the main virtues of his players are: "Any of the twenty who are in Peru can make a difference. They are very complete players, so I'm very calm and confident that we can meet the aim of winning the South American. "
Bolivia
With the goal of getting on the podium for the first time in its history, the Bolivian national team traveled to Peru full of hope and conscious of being able to fight for tickets for the World Cup of Colombia 2011. The man in charge of pulling the threads of the green team will be the veteran international, Marco Sandy.
And in the field, the playerw will be commanded by the talented Alexander Chumbley, one of the most coveted pearls of Bolivian football, who will be the leader and captain of a team that will also have as a reference striker Reyes Antelo, who is active in the lower categories of Rosario Central of Argentina.
Coach Sandy regretted the casualties the team has suffered: Romel Quinones (Bolivar goalkeeper), Diego Suarez (Dynamo Kiev, UCR), both for indiscipline, Amilcar Sanchez and Ramiro Mamani for injuries. The coach himself describes the process of his team: "Despite the short time we have had, we have done a good job, and now we hope to reach the tournament and play four matches well."
Colombia
With the comfort of being qualified for the World Cup as host this summer, the group led by Eduardo Lara will have Michael Ortega, who plays for Mexican Atlas, as its main weapon to be one of the most serious candidates for the continental crown. However, the coffee machine will be without two key players: Luis Fernando Muriel and James Rodriguez, who did not receive authorization from Spanish Granada and Portuguese Porto, respectively. Nor will goalkeeper Cristian Bonilla, who four days before the debut fractured a molar and was replaced by Juan Villate.
Without the pressure of having to struggle to find a ticket to the maximum instance for being the host country, coach Eduardo Lara highlights the importance of the South American: "This tournament will be a good barometer to measure the level of the World Cup team. Everything will depend on the adaptation and behavior they have in the tournament.”
Ecuador
The team run by Sixto Vizuete wants to get a ticket to the World Cup of the category as they did in Argentina did in 2001. For that they must show the steady growth of Ecuadorian football in recent years in any South American competition.
And in order to get into the top four teams, the coach will depend largely on what the team starts can do: midfielder Juan Cazares (River Plate, ARG), forward Edson Montaño (Kaa Gent, BEL) and Walter Chalá (Rubin Kazan, RUS). With them and the good performance of the rest Ecuador aspires to the top.
Coach Vizuete was on the bench for the Major team in 2010 but now has all the guns pointing to this new goal: "The South American is a good possibility for Ecuadorian football to continue to grow and these players are the future of the Mayor team ". He added: "We came to Peru to qualify for the World Cup and also get the ticket to the Olympics."
Paraguay
The current South American runner up wants to repeat the only consecration in the Youth of America achieved 40 years ago (1971). For that it relies on the work being done with the juveniles by coach Adrian Coria of Argentina and in a litter of players that are already known in Guarani football.
Paraguay has an excellent squad, to the point that several of its members have already made inroads in local first division clubs. However, the highlight will be the Italian Udinese striker, Miguel Medina, who will be responsible to meet the scoring quota. Especially after the last-minute drop of striker Federico Santander striker, who did not get permission from his club the French Toulouse.
Coach Adrian Coria of Argentina, who expects a strong performance from his players, said: "We're well prepared, but we know that the rivals will be very difficult. Our goal is to get one of the places for the World Cup of Colombia and the qualification to the London Olympics " |
