Argentine striker Palermo joins Alaves
MADRID, March 12 (Reuters) - Argentine striker Martin Palermo has joined Spanish second division side Alaves after being released from his contract with Real Betis.
The 30-year-old former international is a replacement for Alaves striker Ivan Alonso who is out of action for the rest of the season with a knee ligament injury.
'I am here to prove that I am a good player, something I wasn't able to do at Betis,' Palermo told reporters. 'I want to help the team gain promotion to the first division.'
Alaves, who were relegated from the top flight at the end of last season, are in sixth spot in the second division, six points behind Levante who occupy the final promotion place.
