Didn't shy away from the physical battle with Carroll when the ball was sent in high. Rarely tested in the first half.

More of a presence in the attacking third than at the back, nearly the provider for the opening goal as Krul denied Pavlyuchenko.

Michael Dawson - 7.0
Harry Redknapp must be delighted to have him back. Never one to back out of a challenge, provided exactly the sort of cover needed for the threat of Carroll.

Younes Kaboul - 6.0
Found Lennon for the opening goal, but ruined his part in the game with a needless thrust of his head towards Tiote.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto - 6.5
Should have seen his cross turned in by Van der Vaart in the first half. Did well to contain Routledge for the duration.

Aaron Lennon - Top of the Match - 7.5
His strike took a fortunate deflection to find its way past Krul, but had looked dangerous throughout the game. Back on top form again and almost scored a second, drilling wide.

Could do little to stop Bale, but was not entirely outclassed.

Steven Taylor - 6.5
Was rarely threatened by Pavlyuchenko. Made some important blocks.

Fabricio Coloccini - 6.5
Defends on the edge, but was fairly composed and untroubled today.

James Perch - 6.5
Looked to be in for a busy afternoon up against Aaron Lennon. Rose to the challenge on most occasions in an unfamiliar left back position, but couldn't keep Lennon's shot from finding the net.

Wayne Routledge - 6.0
Came close with a volley late on, but otherwise quiet against Assou-Ekotto.

Joey Barton - 6.5
Was always going to be the pantomime villain. Captained the side today and was at the centre of a lot of their most productive play, making a nuisance of himself in the process.

Alan Smith - Flop of the Match - 6.0
Played in a withdrawn role as Barton pushed up in the absnce of Nolan. Acrobatic attempt at goal was his most meaningful contribution.

Cheikh Tiote - 7.5
Another solid performance from the holding midfielder, got the better of Palacios for the duration. Cannot be bullied off the ball. Replaced by Lovenkrands for final 12 minutes.

Jonás Gutiérrez - 6.0
Found Carroll in the first half, but the striker could only head over. Rarely got beyond Hutton on the left hand side. Booked for bringing down Lennon.

Andrew Carroll - 6.5
Gave Dawson plenty to think about throughout the game. Headed over with his only genuine chance of the half.

Late substitute but couldn't change the game.

Spurs Into Top Four
Tottenham Hotspur have moved into the top four of the Premier League after coasting to a 2-0 win over Newcastle United. It was the second game in a row that Spurs won with just ten men after Kaboul was sent off, but goals from Lennon and Bale were enough for Harry Redknapp's men.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson couldn’t conceal his anger at the referee after a controversial late goal by Lee Bowyer salvaged a draw for Birmingham City.

The Red Devils looked to be heading for victory after Dimitar Berbatov had opened the scoring but were forced to settle for a draw after Bowyer scored after being set up by Zigic who looked to have handled the ball in the build up to the goal.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game the Scot blasted the officials for allowing the late equaliser but refused to blame his players for the late capitulation.

“[It’s a] handball, foul on the centre-half he went right through him, handball, if the referee can’t see that, what chance have you got?” explained the Scot.

“That’s why we expect in a game of that importance you need a referee to see that. If he can’t see that what chance have you got? I can’t fault my team tonight. They worked hard, they’ve run their socks off with little rest. It’s hard on them, it’s hard.”

Ferguson also insisted the result was “terribly harsh” on his side who he claimed had been the better team.

“I think it [the result] is terribly harsh, I think we outplayed them in the second half and we didn’t deserve that,” he added.

“But football’s a funny game, it’s a tight league, it’s a difficult place to come to here, every team that comes here has a difficult game.

"I think we deserved to win the game, we were the better team and maybe we should have finished them off after we went 1-0 up and the number of times we counter-attacked against them, we just needed a bit more care in the final pass or finish, but otherwise it’s just one of those days, unfortunate.”

Despite dropping two points, United remain top of the table and Ferguson remained bullish about his team’s title chances.

“I think we’ve a chance, at this moment in time there are five or six teams that are all contesting that area at the top of the league,” he said.

“I always say if you get to New Year and you are in that front position then Manchester United have a big chance then.”

这个比较难猜，综合实力上来讲热刺略逊一些，这也符合现在夺冠赔率上的排名

不过毕竟还有半年的赛事，不确定因素太多，包括欧冠、伤病、内讧等都可能造成形势上的混乱

五强的实力基本上还是处在一个层面，积分也是如此的胶着，大家很可能会死战到底

以前没太注意热刺。自从贝尔打爆国米后，有所关注。

热刺2-1击败阿斯顿维拉那场球，俺看了直播还是集锦，具体细节倒忘了。胡顿助攻范德法特打进的开门红那个球，就是例证。

助攻有难度，进球者也有难度，不过当时除了范德法特抢点外，热刺还有一个队员在禁区中路那里候着哩。

主场曼城和热刺主场胜是应在情理当中，就是进球少点；桑德兰3-0大胜让人看到了他们击溃蓝军时的风采，实力不俗的，其排名也排在蓝军之后。

进2球的利物浦，其新年首胜来之不易啊，否则主场球迷就要罢赛了。

客场战取胜的红魔和枪手，一前一后都完成了既定目标，不过枪手赢得更漂亮些。上一轮情况又是何其相似，两家都在客场遗憾取得平局，曼联最后时刻被主队以一个争议进球逼平，而枪手更窝囊些，81分钟的乌龙毁了好局。

英超排名格局中前四依次是，曼联和曼城41分、枪手39分、热刺36分。
蓝军比赛今天才开始，暂时以34分排在第5，热刺的紧逼和反超，如梗咽喉啦。
