As Europe awaits the results of uefa.com's users' Team of 2006 poll on Friday, Hamburger SV's Juan Pablo Sorín names his own team of the year.

The Argentinian, who joined Hamburg from Villarreal CF in the summer, resisted the temptation to name himself in the left midfield slot in his Team of 2006, but was thrilled to have been among the nominees. "I'm so proud of being in this group, among so many great players," he told uefa.com.

Goalkeeper - Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus)
He shows confidence and that's very important for a goalkeeper. He is a winner and he saved his team several times during the World Cup finals.

Right-back - Daniel Alves (Sevilla FC)
He plays a different kind of football and that's why I like his type of player. He has the power to surprise you and become a midfielder, and passes the ball perfectly to his team-mates in danger areas.

Left-back - Philipp Lahm (FC Bayern München)
His perfomances during the World Cup were the key factor. He hits the ball with accuracy and is brilliant at solving problems.

Central defenders - Fabio Cannavaro (Real Madrid CF) &
Roberto Ayala (Valencia CF)
Cannavaro is really quick, and he is always a step ahead of everyone else - that's what makes him stand out. Ayala was incredible at the World Cup. He had a great year and has a strong temperament.

Central midfielder - Andrea Pirlo (AC Milan)
He thinks fast and he is always thinking of what's best for the team.

Right midfielder - Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona)
He gave football his personal fresh touch with his changes of rhythm and his footwork.

Left midfielder - Florent Malouda (Olympique Lyonnais)
Ronaldinho is the best player in the world, but Malouda had a better year. Moreover, his performances during the World Cup were amazing.

Attacking midfielder - Juan Román Riquelme (Villarreal CF)
First and foremost, he had a great year. Also, he plays a different kind of football. He is a creator and he has been a key player in every team he's played for.

Forwards - Samuel Eto'o (Barcelona) & Didier Drogba (Chelsea FC)
With Eto'o in you team, you can be sure that the team is going to score, and that's very important for a player. Drogba is a complete forward and a goalscorer. It's hard to stop him because he is very strong.

Coach - Frank Rijkaard (Barcelona) & Juande Ramos (Sevilla)
I cannot choose between them. Both of them make their teams play in a way that I like. One of them did it with great players last year, the other with less well known players.
