Benfica's latest signing, central defender Jardel from Olhanense, was presented at the training center in Seixal today. The 24-year-old affirmed of his ambition to earn a place in the team managed by Jorge Jesus.
Benfica will host Jardel's formal club tomorrow for the BWIN League Cup [Olhanense], and the defender stated his mind is fully concentrated on the Lisbon club.
"Whether or not Olhanense come here and produce a good game, the important is that I am here to wear this shirt. I will honour and give my all to this club. I hope to play well here."
"My career has been full of challenges and this is another one. I am realising a dream."
When questioned about being a future replacement of David Luiz, Jardel immediately replied:
"I am not here to substitute anyone. I will give and try my best. My first objectives are to adapt and gain a place in the team. I have spoke to Jorge Jesus briefly and he has the confidence in me, which is the most important."
Jardel Nivaldo Vieira will sport the shirt number «33» for Benfica.
