Saviola receives Player of the Month Award

Benfica striker Javier Saviola was voted as the Player of the Month for December by the Player's Syndicate of Football Professionals.

The South American's five goals last month, including the winner against FC Porto, made him the odds on favourite to win the individual accolade.

Saviola's strike partner Oscar Cardozo finished eighth in the voting, while FC Porto's Varela and Bruno Alves finished second and ninth, respectively.

Other notables included Peiser (Naval - 3rd), Liedson (Sporting - 4th), Fabio Faria (Rio Ave - 5th) and Ruben Micael (Nacional - 7th).
